When I was a kid, it was, I'm afraid, pretty common to call people Jewish if they were being stingy, e.g. "Don't be such a Jew". A later variation of this was to make a sort of cat-like "meow" sound without pronouncing the "m", so a sort of "yoowww" noise, which was a corruption of "Jeoowww" and meant the same thing.

And we DID know that this was a reference to Jewish people

I never heard of this outside South Park but I can easily believe it - kids are jerks

        ^^This

Did none of you young things go to school in the 70's ???

Someone being stingy was a 'Jew', someone not entirely clean was a 'pa*i' or a 'dar*ie' and anyone displaying less than perfect dexterity was a 'spastic'.

As a Jewish person I take offense whenever I hear the word "Jew" even if it's not meant in a derogatory manner - simply because the word could be derogatory, and because it's a contraction of a longer word in the same way that Paki is a derogatory contraction of Pakistani.

I've not met anyone else that feels the same way (not that I've discussed it with that many people) so it may just be me though.

                  Or spacca wagons.

What is the longer version of the contraction "Jew"?

Will work inside IR35. Or for food.
