Not quite. Build more houses and stop banks from lending stupid amounts of money relative to wages. Then prices will return to a sane level...

It is only in the UK that a mortgage debt can be pursued once the property is returned to the lender. By removing that ability banks would think a lot harder before lending stupid amounts of money to people...

I suspect the long term unemployed are being targeted just for the sake of it and the 'undeserving' are a minority. Just my experience.

Do you read the Daily Wail by any chance?

WHS. Of course there are a few people that play the system, but the majority don't. People get money stopped for all sorts of poxy reasons.

That seems to be incompetence on the behalf of ATOS but I agree he should get a grip on that.

There are plenty of well documented examples of people signed on for depression, stress or grief though.

Build more council houses. Remove right to buy until after, say, 20 years. It would 1) create jobs (thereby also increasing tax revenue and reducing welfare), 2) give people somewhere decent to live, and 3) stop stupid amounts of taxpayer money being paid to private landlords.

In London the market is fed by foreign investors who buy central London property. This in turn pushes rich British people further out buying/renting at an inflated cost and so on down the pay scale.

The most expensive properties don't have any mortgages on them.

Can't fault that. The world is moving into a two tier system with those that provide value still doing well while those without skills are falling further and further behind as computers replace everything they can do...

As for sanctions. You can appeal but I don't think they advertise how to appeal and you need to be whiter than whiter forever afterwards as lost sanction appeals do the worker no favours....

I remember the willification one is subjected to when joining the ranks of the unemployed.

I was an unemployed graduate in the early 90s recession. Couldn't get a graduate job but couldn't get a McJob either cos I was overqualified.

Then, after 6 months they sent me to the Executive Job Club where I got free 2nd class stamps.

Then I got on the ET scheme. That's Employment Training, otherwise known as Extra Tenner as you got an extra £10 a week for doing it.

Mustn't sneer though. I got into an MSc Computing degree under this scheme, believe it or not, at Newcastle Poly.

                    Been no looking back since

let fewer people in? Throw a few undesirables out?
