So, you're saying that it's not neglect if the parents get lucky?

If the parents weren't having a good time at the time?

Take pot shots at the messenger all day but the message will remain the same. You lost the battle when you resorted to name calling.

Lost it well before then when he decided that leaving small children unsupervised was an acceptable risk.

As to the Alice Gross situation I think most parents would take the view since she was 14, she was old enough (in normal circumstances, i.e. didn't come across some predatory murderer) to take care of herself so didn't need supervision. While it's true that all kids mature at different rates it's obvious that at 3 ish the McCanns eldest child needed supervision so abandoning her and her younger siblings was selfish, willful child neglect.

I see they are going to crack down on McCann hating trolls, perhaps Churchill and TykeMerc will be changing their tunes soon lest they get a chap on the door

I don't hate them and I'd certainly never send hate messages to them, but I also don't accept that they're victims of circumstance. They bear responsibility for what happened as a result of their actions.

                An interesting mental picture.

Of course they bear some responsibility but when deciding how much security your infant needs, "some stranger might walk into the house and abduct them" really shouldn't be part of the discussion unless you live in a terrorist zone. You plan around things you can predict - in the UK you don't check for poisonous spiders in the loo before sitting down, you keep your car serviced but then drive assuming the brakes aren't going to fail, etc.

Leaving a kid is a bad idea but it's unreasonable to make that decision based on fear of kidnappers, rather than the likelihood the kid might hurt themself or wander off. That level of paranoia leads to never doing anything.

They can come knocking on my door, they'll get short-shrift and laughed out of court.

                    ...

There's something missing from this thread of accusation and counter accusation, attack and defence of the parents.

I know, it's that thing that cannot be taught but needs to be learned.

                    Common sense.
