Thing is this is not what they did. They went out socialising, eating, drinking. It's not at all something like Jamie Bulger. It's not an accident, a momentary lapse. It was their decision to leave three very young children on their own and go for a jolly. They could have even taken the children with them! They are at least partially to blame.

In my book they bear the vast majority of the blame and all of the responsibility. It was their negligence in deciding to go out and leave their kids without proper care.

Whilst I agree with what the NSPCC has to say, I'm yet to see their recommendation that if you do this, you should be reviled on the internet and have odious cu nt s start posts about how you got what you deserve and what great parents they are in comparison.

I don't disagree that the OP was tasteless. I don't believe Madeleine deserved to suffer from their actions either which were irresponsible at best. Not looked for a while but opinion was pretty much split between 'something not right' and 'poor McCanns'.
