Interesting how this thread has not really divided opinion - so much as shown that everyone hates everyone else. In theory this would make the XMAS drinks fun - but I am sure we will all love one another by then.

What is more interesting than the Mccanns is the reaction of others to their plight. They are close to home - they are - "people like us" . They are not some dysfunctional chavs or foreigners who have fallen foul of their local mafia or dodgy religion.
What happened to them has scared the living daylights out of us fellow middle class (and white of course) affluent professionals. They are doctors - people we trust how could this happen to them? at club Mark warner of all places - we have all been there if for no other reason to get some support for looking after our kids - we need a break from them too.
How we deal with their loss of a child lies between two ends of a spectrum. Many of us accept that these things happen and though troubled by the events we take a position of support and sympathy. At the other end there are those of who cannot confront the fact that this sort of thing could happen to them.
We deal with it by distancing ourselves from the McCanns. Those that are truly scared go so far as to vilify the Mccanns for leaving their children unattended. Others with personal issues about their own inadequacies take the same line with the intention of making themselves feel better because someone else (like them) is worse. What is more the more extreme these inadequacies are the more likely they will play their angsts out on social media.
As I have always said this is not about the Mcanns or their children it is about our reaction to what has happened to them.Last edited by DodgyAgent; 30 September 2014, 08:25.Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment

"We" do need a break sometimes but you have a child you take on the responsibilities!Comment
