I think they will change their minds quickly if a yes vote wins. It's pure tactics and politicians have been known to turn when it suits them.Originally posted by jemb View PostWestminster has stated that there will be no CU - so at least there is clarity there.Comment

Any evidence for any of those claims? Or is it more fear and scare?Originally posted by sirja View PostBTW, The NATO Sectary General has made it clear that Scotland would have to reapply to join. I can easily the US and UK insisting that keeping Trident in Scotland is the price for that. So Potentially we're looking at an Independent Scotland, with its interest rates set in London, it's spending vetoed in Westminster and it's dreams of being Nuclear free dashed. If that's being independent........

So do you want Scottish budgets to be approved or vetoed in London?Originally posted by Unix View PostI think they will change their minds quickly if a yes vote wins. It's pure tactics and politicians have been known to turn when it suits them.Comment

That's what happens now, a currency union means Scotland have power to say what happens with monetary policy.Originally posted by Old Greg View PostSo do you want Scottish budgets to be approved or vetoed in London?Comment

And you are happy that an independent Scotland will see Scottish budgets approved or vetoed in London?Originally posted by Unix View PostThat's what happens now, a currency union means Scotland have power to say what happens with monetary policy.
Whereas with your own currency, there will be no oversight?Comment

No. CU would mean that there might be one bitter, little ****er at the back of the room calling for scotland to have a say in monetary policy... The one that nobody will be listening to.Originally posted by Unix View PostThat's what happens now, a currency union means Scotland have power to say what happens with monetary policy.

That won't happen as Trident is a red line issue. If that means we are not allowed to join NATO then fair enough. A lot of Yes campaign groups don't want to be a member of NATO anyway including a sizable chunk of the SNP.Originally posted by sirja View PostBTW, The NATO Sectary General has made it clear that Scotland would have to reapply to join. Imagine if NATO said no then we invited Russia to use our ports for their ships and airports for their MIGs.

Let's see, you are getting divorced. Not only do you want your 16 year old son (who you wouldnt trust to be left alone in the house) to have a say, but you want to keep a joint bank account.
