I surrender - read the full text of his speech, and note the difference between what he says about a CU (incompatable with a Sovereign Nation) and Sterlingisation.
    They're different.

When major banks and economists are saying that it makes no sense for the RUK you have to take notice.

If we vote Yes - then we will have left the UK - there will be no reason for the UK to look after our interests. It will also be political suicde for either of the major UK parties to go into a 2015 election with a Yes to CU on their manifesto.

    I won't happen.

So far, no agreement has been reached and it's caused frustration in Quebec. I'll try and find a link.
Oh I am sure that Westminster will utterly sell you down the river, but it will be enough to chip away at the pro-independence support. That's all they need to do.

Fair enough, but even you must be having a laugh at some of the crap on this thread where everything the SNP say is lies and everything Tories/Labour and Lib Dems say is written in tablets of stone. The same party leaders that will be ripping the piss out of the UK electorate in a few months time

If you want funny, watch last nights broadcast of George Galloway standing with the Tory Scottish leader agreeing with everything she said

I think that is the way to go to build a better nation in the long term. Any idea how many jobs will be lost in the short term (both directly and indirectly)?

            if you knew....

Can I ask - if you *knew* there was to be no CU. Would you still vote Yes?

I am benignly neutral, although I lean towards think independence would be a good move for Scotland- but with major short term risks that should be honestly discussed.

A few pages back, someone (you?) suggested that both sides were guilty of lies and negative campaigning. Actually, I think the Yes side is far more guilty of deceit, whereas the No side is far more guilty of negative campaigning.

You guys are potentially going towards a Yes vote, where for currency:

Plan A is a currency union (which nobody in EWNI wants and which cannot be achieved without the agreement of EWNI)
Plan B is 'Panama' and reneging on a share of the national debt (which would probably disbar you from EU membership and lead to a trashed credit rating)

              Best of luck with that.

                Jesus Christ...

Mandela quotes, Braveheart face painting, bagpipes, cries of freedom. I think that is house in nationalist bulltulip bingo.

The thing is... Salmond and the 'proper nationalists' know there is going to be no CU and don't want one anyway - they don't want independence-lite, with their fiscal affairs vetoed and approved by London. But Cameron made a strategic error when he left DevoMax off the ballot paper, so the CU line is a play for those DevoMax supporters who want something in between the status quo and full independence. Once the vote is run, Salmond negotiates for CU, London blocks it, the EU blocks the Panama solution, so Salmond presents a situation where Scotland has been bullied by its imperial master into having its own currency, which is what he wanted all along. It's genius politics.

Devo max is impossible. The city of London cant have Scottish financials on a lower corporation tax rate but with all the security the UK brings. Financials would move north and England can't have that.
