I still think the contract market is cr@p. Im getting lots of calls for overseas roles ie copenhagen, singapore, dublin etc and roles in London. Unfortunately, none of these are do-able for me.

Good news is I've now got an offer of a 26 week role starting a week Monday. Down side is rate is down 30 quid a day and a 5 night a week stay away is required. Client doesnt seem to be amenable to having a mid morning Monday start. Hmmm.

Had another telephone interview this morning for a role nearer home although Im expecting a rate offer of just over 2/3rds my normal rate (told them how much I wanted and they said 'Are you flexible on that? which isnt a good sign).

Jobswerve is still showing more permie roles available than contract too.
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

dead as a dodo, sticking where i am for the moment lads.
Politicians are wonderfull people, as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, like working for a living!

Lots of internal transfers for contractors where I am.
If UKIP are the answer, then it must have been a very stupid question.

If you are specialised then whatever the general community say it will be wrong.

Try using something like itjobswatch for a rule of thumb. Yes it is only jobs advertised on the boards but can be something useful. For example. PM jobs using the graph before. Every period of Jul to Jan has a downward trend bar one year which has a flat one. Although again too generic to really bet your house on it gives some indication.

Better still camp on the jobs boards and DYOR.

I often look at these charts, but I am starting to wonder if they are meaningful at all. Agents keep posting phony jobs to get CVs. These job ads are typically short, generic, offering high daily rates, and nonexistent. So, the statistics is most likely dodgy. Is this only my paranoia, or is there any truth in it?
My mind has gone blank. I wonder if it was always that way.

After several months of doing short contracts I've just accepted a three month contract direct with a huge software vendor which should be good CV fodder starting the same as you a week Monday which is when I get back from holiday. I have had similar problems with you with the market with plenty of low continental rates and time wasters calling up.

Got a better deal on the commute as they are flexible on where I work and the client site is under 20mins from home and mostly by boat

Just had my preferred option pulled while they re-evaluate their approach to resourcing.

2 other possibles aren't exactly galloping ahead.

              Splendid.

I've just had to decline a role because the client wanted me chained to the desk 9 - 5 and no flexibility (plus there were other issues meaning the contract was no longer viable.)

Fortunately, I've another on the go with a confirmed interview next week.

                Hey ho.

It seems alright to me. I have hidden my cv on jobswerve and i still get a couple of calls per week. Then again, I landed this gig only a couple of weeks ago after a 2 hour permie-style interview.
I am Brad. I do more than the needful and drive the market rates up by not bobbing my head.

                    Good luck.

One of the reasons I was keen on the one I mentioned was agreement to work Fridays off site. A bit of a too and fro negotiation but both of us gave so we got there in the end. Then along came HR

What is it you do and what sort of rate do you get? I may need to re-train at this rate!
