What you could do then is to get your lawyer to draw up an agreement that the agency has to sign which states that if any monies are missing from your account after you have passed them these details then they are liable...

Not really. You are not looking at the whole picture. They save millions of posted statements just to have to go paperless in the odd time it is required. Not ironic at all.

Scan it / download it from the website.

Use Paint Shop Pro (or similar) to block out all the transaction details. Email a copy across.

Bank statements, no, but have had to provide utility bill & it needed to be the original, not a copy.
I suspect you're going to have to comply, otherwise take the consequences - i.e. no role.
Cutting out (craft/stanley knife etc) certain information seems a better way, rather than trying to hide info with a black marker pen, as if held to the light the information is visible.

What you might end up providing them with might look comical though; an A4 piece of paper with chunks missing out of it

              - Send the original if posting, companies can get snippy about copies.

              - Dont black out, cut out with a knife. Sometimes numbers/details can still be seen through blacked out pen.

All the above are thoughts clearly missed by one obnoxious poster but never mind.

Yes, I agree, what if you have paperless statements, what if you have no printer \ scanner (I dont, never have need for them) etc, etc?

Fact is, I actually have an account with the finance company involved but they cannot use that for 'data protection' reasons!

Also, apparently, the finance company use a separate checking agency and its the checking agency who are requesting banks statements (it's now gone up to 3 monthly statements dated in the last 3 months).

So, I've had to get the digi camera out, take pics of 3 statements and email them over as they are prepared to accept this.

So much for the paperless office!

Which is what I did after discussions with them. Said I was more than happy to take them into the office I'd be working at but that wasnt acceptable either as they had no resource section there.

I got the impression they wanted originals?

If copies would have sufficed, you could have gone on line, got your bank statements, saved as pdf, then redacted the information you didn't want to reveal, then emailed on to recipient. But you might have needed Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended, or something similar to do the redacting. Sounds like you've dealt with it now though, albeit in a heath-robinson stylee.

Yes the agent said originals. I said I wasnt going to be putting 1 (then 3) statements into the postal system. Unfortunately my bank doesnt do on line pdf statements.

So they arranged for the client recruitment co to contact me and I told them my concerns re ID theft about putting such docs in the post. He undertsood my concerns and during discussion we reached an acceptable compromise with what were pics taken with a digi camera.

My bank statements are very healthy but I dont see why I should disclose the workings of mine \ wife's joint account to anyone. Neither did I want to deface existing statements. Time was also of the essence and I dont have scanning facilities so one obnoxious poster's comments irritated me.

The original post was more one of 'would you?' but I appreciate people interpret things in different ways.

If I really wanted to dig in I could have done but, as someone rightly said, the job offer would likely fall apart.

Er, my point is that having tried to eliminate paper, banks of all people should not ask someone to provide an original paper statement from their bank.
