Would you post your personal bank statement to agent?

Agent for the new role want me to post my personal bank account statement to them so they can provide 'proof' of my address to the end client, who operate in the financial sector.

I said a recent utility bill will 'prove' my address just as well which I was prepared, reluctantly, to post to them. The agent is in London so I cannot drop it off. The client is 50 miles away from me and I said I was prepared to take my 'proof' in to them but agent says they want the bank statement sent to them.

Now, I've worked in the financial sector for the last 8 years for 4 different clients and I've never had one insist on a bank statement as proof of address.

I could do but I tend to keep a rolling 2 years of bank statements so I can check any details. Blocking them out would mean losing this.

In any event, this would just make the bank statement virtually the same as a utility bill?

Ive had plenty ask for that. One financial company would only accept a bank statement. One company I worked for even insisted on credit checks against all employees and contractors.

Yea, what I did with mine is give them the cover page with the balance and general info. with my balance, acc number and sort code cut out with a craft knife.

They had no problem with that at all. (If they had, then I would have told them my acc number, sort code and earnings are private and none of their business)

Quite simple, scan it in/make a colour photocopy, keep the copy and alter the original before sending.

            - Send the original if posting, companies can get snippy about copies.

            - Dont black out, cut out with a knife. Sometimes numbers/details can still be seen through blacked out pen.

Just say you've gone paperless for bank statements, but the utility bills are still on paper?

That's what i would do. or else give them a statement for one of my non-primary accounts which i don't use any more.
Do you have a credit card statement you could send them? Maybe from an old card you don't use?

Am I the only one who thinks it's ironic that banks encourage us to go paperless, and then a bank wants to see the paper statement?
