Is it worth having a company website?

Like most contractors I have my own domain for my limited company for email addresses, but I am considering going a step further and having a web site.

The starter package at 123-reg is £2.49 per month. They would want about 60 quid upfront for 2 years if I go ahead.

Does anybody else have a webs site? Is it worth it?

I have a company website, nothing special but its not a lot of effort.

I would recommend Vidahost over 123-reg its much cheaper and if you want to take it seriously the Customer Service is exceptional, tickets answered pretty much any hour of the day and always within an hour

Anything which would indicate to HMRC that your company is a legitimate business which markets itself can't be a bad thing.

I agree. There's been some emphasis in recent IR35 cases to a contractor having an overall business attitude, and being able to demonstrate that they are a genuine business. Websites, business cards, advertising etc all help in this regard.

I agree, I think it is a pointer to outside IR35 albeit a fairly weak one. But I do have a Ltd Co website.

I've had a couple of 'corporate' websites but cannot be bothered now.

I'm planning 1 at the moment for my plan B and the plan is to provide a link to my contractor business as it will be going on my CV.

Especially as plan B is an all signing and dancing Azure site with real time ETL to a rapidly growing data warehouse.

I don't however think I would bother with a website if all it said was I'm a contractor doing xxxx, look at me.

The .co.uk to my company is taken but I can have a .ltd.uk for £15.

Agree with previous post as how different would a company website be to say my linked in profile?

I have one but more for the email address than anything else. me@pondyltd.co.uk looks better than pondy007@freemail.co.uk IMHO.

Then it's minimal effort to stick a joomla site up containing articles explaining what you do and where you've done it.
