Depends on your skill set. For mine outside is £550 to £600 or so but inside is anything from £500 to £850.

And if my calculations are right if you the inside rate covers the Employer NI payments provided you max out your pension payment the difference between inside and outside isn't much different.

If you have been moneyboxing (I.e. keeping in the company for a rainy day) your outside work - you wouldn’t be paying into your pension for outside work. So I have £120,000 of allowances I can make use of.

also from £100,000 the tax rate is 62% as you the basic allowance is removed

US rates are vastly higher than UK/EU rates, which is one reason I focus there.

Just bear in mind that, if they don't pay you, it won't be worth pursuing them.

Also, they will probably want the contract written with US jurisdiction and governing law (of a US state).

By being a specialist and building a network over many years, mainly through working in my niche as a permie, not linkedin etc. I'm not in IT, so my experience is probably not relevant, except in a general sense. I mostly get work by teaming with other companies and responding to RFPs. Networking is the right idea but, if you're a generalist, it will be much harder because those roles can be filled locally. It's hard to compare the US with the UK because there isn't much of a contracting scene in the US (as we know it). That said, the labour market is extremely tight over there at the moment, so you may get lucky even as a generalist, but it may be easier to find a fully remote permie position, ironically.

It doesn’t take much to differentiate yourself either. 54% of people on LinkedIn have less than 500 connections 27% have between 500–999 12% have between 1,000–1,999 3% have between 2,000–2,999. Meaning if you knock out 400 new connections per month you’ll be within the top 3 percent in a little over 7 months.

10k LinkedIn connections are not actual connections. You’ve just spammed everyone you can.

“headhunted” is being asked to slog your arse, for 60+ hrs a week, for an under market rate, to a US company, who will control your arse as well…… that’s not my definition of headhunted.
nobody headhunts developers unless they are something very special ( you’re not)
