Hand in notice - to the agent, they can earn the corn, you DON'T have to give a reason. If pressed - the distance is reason enough, thought I could do it but can't.

IF someone senior taps you up for a reason, be prepared to give a TOTALLY IMPERSONAL review. Don't say they don't like me/car/hair etc, that is irrelevant.
State clearly that you find the whole setup inefficient, with an aggresive, confrontational attitude that doesn't help anyone. You are not used to working like that anywhere else and better team environments are much more productive.

Any senior with a clue will already know the personalities involved.

I personally wouldn't bother trying to talk it through, all get round a table etc etc. I already know these are the worst type of jealous permies who you can never reason with.
+1 Couldn't agree more. Don't waste your time. You can't argue with stupid.

Focus on the new gig you have secured and put this tulip behind you.

Most contractors have their 'nightmare contract'.

    You've had yours.

    Move on from it.

Agreed, the rate wasn't great, I'm sure that they play on the F1 thing to keep their salaries down too.

I can't believe I just read all of this for the OP to abandon his account and not tell us what he did. Anyone know?

Lol.. Sorry about that. It tends to be the way I'm afraid. Occasionally someone will come back which is great as it really adds to the fora. The real outcome compared to us all casting our opinion is very interesting stuff. Sadly it's in the minority.

I genuinely get the feeling I'm being goaded into walking. I don't know what else they get from it other than they'd probably refuse to pay me for the week I've just worked. If they terminate me they do have a clause to get rid with no notice on the grounds of incompetence but they still need to pay me the week that I've done. If they decide to end it without the grounds they owe me seven days in my contract.

I'm half tempted to just walk in tomorrow, get the manager and just make it clear I think it's obvious he has an issue with me, if he wants to let me go we can part ways now. I'm sick of the waiting and the uncertainty

Hey I haven't abandoned the account. My wife got rushed into hospital for surgery a couple of weeks ago and having two very small children I've had to take time off to help her in the recuperation and to look after the kids. I've just been really busy and meant to post an update as to what happened.

Obviously this situation with my wife didn't go down too well with the client but unfortunately they're wasn't much i could do about it. I offered to work remotely but the offer was turned down flat.

For what it's worth I had it out with the client. I asked him for a private meeting and basically told him that his attitude stinks. I told him I didn't appreciate the grief I was being given; the constant sniping, the pettyness with check ins, the mentioning of my pay in front of other team members. I'll be honest, I thought he was going to fire me. I actually got an apology off him. I was so impressed with his response i decided to stick around and I turned another gig down because I didn't feel right leaving them after getting things out in the open and the air cleared.

Then my wife had her accident and I explained that I would have to be unavailable for at least a fortnight. You'd think I'd just took a dump on his desk from his reaction. I thought he might actually behave like a human being with feelings and think that it MUST be quite stressful for a guy to get a call at work trying him he needs to go home asap. Given the situation it clearly dawned on him that I was leaving there and then to get to my wife so he agreed to the time off.

Personally I wish that he'd just terminated the contract. I made an extra effort to get back after only a week and by the time I'd gotten back it was pretty much back to square one. I'm unable to do a check in without him finding things wrong, though when I explain that it won't work without the additions I've made and demonstrate it he doesn't give me so much as an apology or offer me the benefit of the doubt in future ones. He also times my check ins late in the day, he kept me back an hour and a half after everyone else had gone the other night then refused to sign a timesheet to say I'd worked until 7; he felt the overtime was unjustified apparently.

Anyway, on Friday I gave him notice, after signing my timesheet without the extra hours I'd put in. I'm unavailable too so won't be going back.

I've got a new gig lined up in Manchester working with someone I know so hopefully things will be better there.

Again sorry for not filling you all in sooner, it's just been a hectic couple of weeks

Well, this morning I got an email from the agent. Apparently the client is very unhappy that I've handed my notice in. They've told me that they want me to work my notice period.

I've basically told them that I have personal business that I need to attend to and will be unavailable to work said notice period. Essentially threatening me for breach of contract.

They made me feel like they couldn't wait to get me out of there and now I'm out, they're trying to suck me back in.
