Personally - I tend to dig in out of devillment and just to annoy the nobbers involved. I should have walked off a couple though and regretted it later so if I did I would:
Hand in notice - to the agent, they can earn the corn, you DON'T have to give a reason. If pressed - the distance is reason enough, thought I could do it but can't.
IF someone senior taps you up for a reason, be prepared to give a TOTALLY IMPERSONAL review. Don't say they don't like me/car/hair etc, that is irrelevant.
State clearly that you find the whole setup inefficient, with an aggresive, confrontational attitude that doesn't help anyone. You are not used to working like that anywhere else and better team environments are much more productive.
Any senior with a clue will already know the personalities involved.
I personally wouldn't bother trying to talk it through, all get round a table etc etc. I already know these are the worst type of jealous permies who you can never reason with.Comment

-Ask if he wants anything picking up from waitrose as you're going there to grab some lunch
-Withdraw a few hundred in cash and leave your wallet on your desk with it sticking out
-Ask him for advice on what expensive new phone you should get (paid out of the company of course - it's great hardly paying any tax)
-Turn up late a little late and then say you punctured a tire and complain about how much it cost to replace a spare on your Masserati.
etc.Comment

For anyone concerned about permanent employees being envious of their car, I see McLaren Technology Group are recruiting!
Should be ok as long as you don't turn up in a Bugatti Veyron.Comment

I got a call about a contract BA role there a few years ago. Apparently a lot of Mercs in the car park, part of the permy package and with the F1 link-up.Comment

The beauty of contracting is that there is always light at the end of the tunnel - and it's never far away. And whilst you are choking down pole, you are making lots of cash. I think of gigs in terms of fractions of flats. I've just been extended by 9 months, that's half a flat- two of them is another pension. Rise above it and be joyous because the grass is always greener.Comment
