I think we are in a perfect storm and IR35 has almost made it socially unacceptable to hire a contractor plus a lot of decision makers are sitting on their hands thinking AI will come along and make anything signed off not obsolete in a couple of years but I think offshoring is the main reason for our demise.

New projects are being signed off, it's just existing staff doing the work. In down turns like this they can understaff projects and overwork everyone because there is much less risk anyone will quit. While in the boom times projects tend to be overstaffed.

The number of IT workers in the UK has fallen by 10% (or something in that ballpark) since 2022. But it still leaves 90% to work on any new projects while maintaining existing systems at the same time.

Despite 10 years contracting in London, I've only ever had one interview in that building and only one at Citi. Neither came off. Loads at the likes of Barcap, Credit Suisse, etc. Last time I was down Canary Wharf, Barcap had vacated 10 South Colonnade, to be replaced by some government department (WTF are they doing in such a high cost centre?). I would imagine CW feels quite different these days, post-covid and with the asylum seekers starting to move into the hotels. Fond memories.

I'm not sure the on site security will allow the asylum seekers into the estate itself! Those hotels are just outside the boundary. It's one of the highest security places in the UK.

Has a slightly different feel though as they have tried to broaden the use with Market Halls and other pop ups and restaurants (Roka, Hawksmoor), a lot more folk there in the evening.

Barclays is now in Churchill place next to the Brewdog, before they had two buildings (North and South Colonnade). I got sent to the wrong one for an interview - didn't get that job

I was at 10SC. Got paid loads but not much work to do.

Used to run at lunchtime, down to Westminster and back over Tower Bridge. ~11miles, 80mins.

Read a post on the previous page about a position that didnt add any new skills or accreditations. For me, this is usually a big no no.

Any job, were there is little to do or no new skills will mean I am not adding anything to the toolbox so effectively going backwards. One of the reasons, I avoid anything which is easy and little work.

Never understood people who wanted easy jobs. Spend 8hrs of the day working, at least get something from it.

When I was there, Barcap had 3 offices, the 5NC, 10SC and Churchill Place. I never worked in the Churchill Place building, I think the techies were always in the other two. I did spend a couple of years at the KPMG HO next door. Very nice building and great location.

And that's exactly the reason why there are no jobs ATM. If TFL are issuing visas for jobs what chance has a UK graduate got?

                    What a mess.
