It depends on the type of consultancy/client base.

About half my consulting days involved staying in four or five star hotels in the likes of Paris, Brussels, Lisbon and Frankfurt. The reverse side of the coin is I also had assignments in Birmingham and Bradford.

If you think flying around the world consulting is great then you haven't been doing it very much.
Yes, turning left on a plane is better than turning right, yes, experiencing different food, different cultures, etc can be interesting, but all that travel for work is not great for your health or your relationships, and having platinum and black cards for the hotel chains and airlines is not the great flex you might think it is.

Oh I quite enjoyed it.

It was a shock flying through CDG yesterday without lounge access and a free hold bag...

With hotels I find just having a stupid amount of points (I have £x,000 worth across multiple chains) means you get treated well regardless of how often you stay because the chain is hoping that keeping you happy there will bring you back from the whatever "competing" chain you are using.

Fortnight of the worst weather imaginable and now the water has been cut. 10 hours and counting. Updates on the water companies website have not only not been updated but totally removed.

Still 3rd world.

Still, 2025 has taught me some VERY important lessons.

1. Don't retire early
2. Don't delude yourself by thinking a life in the sun (fat chance) is even doable.

Just realized that I have not seen any adverts from IBM, Dell, ACN, HSBC lately.

In fact, I just landed at Gatwick and I remember at least at LHR gangways plastered with HSBC.

Clearly no growth in these areas and no expectation of recovery. Banks are usually the first to start the grad recruitment programs which usually run Dec-Apr, with a summer start date.

You can all look forward to me posting for another 12mths at least

You need to start a thread in general with daily musings compiled into short, one line statements. One guy used to do it, was one of the best threads on here.
