If someone proficient in Selenium (and a host of other things) is essentially down to minimum wage then the industry stops being sustainable as you literally might as well stack shelves.
That’s before you take into account being bilingual.
Indeed, I'd much rather be doing something fun that pays £12 an hour. The only way it's sustainable is using offshore resource or maybe some kind of WFH arrangement.

We've seen "taking a piss" job ads in the good times as well, so I wouldn't necessarily draw conclusions from this. For all we know this doesn't even exist and / or there's like 3-5 middle men involved and the thing is simply reposted with a lower rate.
Saying that, when advertising a position which requires two languages, where English is one, make yourself a favor and simply advertise in the other language as the chances of finding someone with that second language as a native + English are much higher than the other way around (and this is why I think this job ad is simply a re-posted ad from a French board).
I got a text message yesterday from an unknown number saying my CV had been selected for a role paying £60-300 per day, all I had to so was reply via WhatsApp to a different number.

One thing that really annoys me is reading through a job advert you think you are perfect for to read in the last line you need to speak Japanese.
That really should be one of the first things that gets mentioned.

Most job ads I've seen which require a second language are written in that particular language, so straight away you know / only apply if you understand what the hell it all means.

I haven't seen that at all. I've seen a number of jobs recently where the ad is in English and the spec asks for proficiency in a second language.
This thread has become the main discussion point of the entire CUK forum, for good reason.
The IT Contractor market has changed, become smaller and less lucrative.
Also running a small company has become a lot more difficult.
Am I the only one here who thinks it's not that bad?
Not humblebragging or putting myself forward as awesome. Just an average contractor, truly.
My day rates are lower than they were, by about 15-20%.
But over the last few months I've been getting a lot of honest (and a little dishonest) contact for roles in my area.
Probably approaching the amount of calls I used to get in the bad old days.
I'm thinking it's the agencies getting more organised, and trolling through Linkedin and old copies of my CV thay have lying around.
