The 'It Jobs Watch' graph suggests we have hit the bottom, but we need a few more months worth of data to see if it does pan out that way.
Contracts overtaking permanent is interesting. Might mean companies want to put a toe in the water with temporary resource before taking the plunge with permanent staff?
I'll be honest with you guys. Since 'retiring' exactly one month ago, I've been questioning my decision and hence, monitoring the market.
What I've found, especially the last fortnight or so is a pretty decent market, finding it both surprising and encouraging at the same time. The uptick in the posted graph appears to support my findings. An inside roles at as much as £ 1k - £ 1.5k. Outside at up to £ 750. Both hedge funds. Opportunities with friends at £ 850 inside (investment bank). Hybrid working. A real mixed bag of others I rejected. A combination of LinkedIn, networking and good old Jobserve.
Let's hope this is the start of a recovery for all.

I am not doubting you but that would seem to be an atypical experience going on the evidence offered from others here.

lol, I have not seen anything like this at all. And why would they pay the high rates, when there are a million contractors available?
Why are recruitment agencies closing and agents advertising themselves for other roles?
Nothing of what you say is true.
And there is one thing seeing advertised roles, there is another being called about them and ultimately converting them to offers.
I have applied to ~25 jobs this week and not received any phone calls.
Getting two calls per day on average, mostly irrelevant junk of course (really cheap rates, inside or perm despite clearly stating outside, completely distant location, wrong technology stack, etc.)
one or two per week out of those are the ones I've directly applied to or from the same agency I made recent application.
Conversion rate always was relatively low (call-interview, obviously even worse for full chain to call-interview-contract).
I normally don't expect first two months of the year to bring results as markets are normally just warming up from winter at this period, it's rather anomaly for Jan-Feb to get in contract on my segment.

What’s made you question the retirement decision, if you don’t mind me asking?
Market is not recovering at all. Maybe if you have niche skills. I have also noticed a lot of redundancies on LinkedIn lately. Dread to think what the actual numbers of people out of work is currently.
1700. Tells me everything I need to know. Clearly means, I am in a long list of candidates for the position, which ultimatly means, it will be a set of standard questions, my cv will not be opened and I have minimal chance.
I do like to say, I am the best of my opportunities, so let's see what happens.

Best of luck. It might be 5pm as the interviewers are unable to align diaries - positivity!
