Contract market still as dead as ever.
I've tempted to write this a few times, but I've cracked...

These sorts of comments mean next to nothing unless you share what kind of role you're looking at, and what part of the country you are in.

Bristol based but contract in Manchester

I'm based in Bristol been offered a contract in Manchester (not ideal). Decent rate but means will have to stay up there during the week and come back on the weekend.

No expenses via your limited company if inside IR35 (now or next April) remember

Getting a feeling of lower rates across the board - what was £500 now seems to be £400

Still, better than £0+VAT which is my current setup

I'm primarily a permie not a contractor. Been looking for C#/.NET roles in the London area. The market is dead. Back in 2015 I remember getting 19 phonecalls the first day I put my CV on the job boards. Then it was frantic and I found a gig after 3 weeks.

Yesterday I got just 1 phonecall.

I've also applied for data analyst/technical writing roles but I've just been getting the "sorry but we were swamped with applications" emails.

About the only companies still recruiting are the smaller product based companies, and of course the crap ones nobody ever wants to work for.

I'm going overseas again till Brexit dies down. I guess that could be a long stay .

Coming available for the first time in about a year and am a bit worried with the lack of random recruiter spam that's usually quite annoying. Every previous agency / client I've worked with is reporting basically everything being slowed down to a crawl and the few openings they did have are being pushed back until later this year / early next year.

Hoping on some more work soon although a break can be nice as well I guess.

I'm in the agile space/Scotland - non-development but semi-technical role - and in contract till end of year. I'm talking with my client (large FS company) about extending to Feb until while work out what they're doing with IR35 (I'm suspecting they'll be risk averse so will look for people to move to one of their managed service companies or to go perm).

I got an email nudge from Jobserve a few days ago about "refreshing" my CV - basically marking it as updated so that it filters nearer the top of agencies searches (we all know they do keyword search and sort by last updated). I thought I'd do it, just to see the results, and I've had a number of contacts from agencies since then - for both contract and perm roles.

Of course, they might just be fishing, but its not all necessarily doom and gloom.
