This year, for the first time in modern history, Britain will drop out of Germany's ten largest trading partners. The Czech Republic has recently overtaken Britain in the ranking of the most important trading partners. This was reported by the DPA agency, citing an analysis by the German development agency Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI).

In 2016, the majority of Britons voted for Britain to leave the European Union. Since then, the importance of the country for German trade has been declining. Uncertainty remains high.

Trade in goods between Germany and Great Britain did grow between January and October, but at a slower rate than overall German trade. In addition, the Czech Republic has a significant lead over Britain in trade, so it will be almost impossible to catch up in November and December, GTAI said.

"The slow development of German-UK foreign trade is not a new trend," the GTAI report pointed out. Since 2017, the first full year since the Brexit referendum, Britain's importance has steadily declined. At the time, it was Germany's fifth most important trading partner.

Anecdotally, I used to buy from a few German companies, including a couple through eBay, and only one of them still sells to the UK.

My point was that significant numbers of each country voted leave when the accusation was that none of the Scots voted for this.

No one ever said that no one in Scotland voted for it. What has always been said is that Scotland (and NI) voted against it, by majority.
