1. Some people claimed that the UK would be able to set higher standards than the EU, once we had our own separate legislation. However, when an amendment to the new bill said "How about not dumping untreated sewage into the rivers and the sea?" the government refused.
2. Previously, companies needed a permit to dump sewage, and that permit required them to treat it first. However, some of the chemicals are now harder to come by, so the Environment Agency have said that companies don't have to follow that restriction anymore.
Government says polluters can dump risky sewage into rivers as Brexit disrupts water treatment | The Independent
So, I believe that the amount of pollution has got worse after Brexit. Whether that's a significant problem will depend on your point of view (e.g. whether you want to go swimming in that water).Comment

Not an easy problem to fix. It will take umpteen billions to upgrade our systems, so what do we do until that happens?
PS They should be telling us that drinking a bit of pooey water each day is good for you.bloggoth

Sewage sludge containing human waste from the Netherlands has been passed for import to the UK, to be used on farmland as fertiliser, despite concerns over the safety of its use.
Spreading the sludge on farmland is banned in the Netherlands, where incineration is preferred, but allowed in the UK. Dutch water authorities are eyeing the UK as a possible destination for their sewage, after problems at an Amsterdam incineration company left them lacking disposal options.Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.Comment

Anyway, it's good to see that we've got a greatturdtrade deal there, and they need us more than we need them. Everything is flowing normally through to the UK, no constipation in the process.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment
