ooh look back to Nov 2011.

not quite there with the Dollar after apparently 5 years of trump stupidity.

    https://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?f...o=USD&view=10Y

    good against the yen

I thought we were supposed to be broke and worthless by now.

I would worry more about the impending food shortages:

      https://www.thegrocer.co.uk/supermarkets/food-shortages-now-inevitable-due-to-labour-crisis-industry-warns/657227.article

Worsening supermarket food shortages are now “inevitable” in the coming weeks as labour shortages across the food supply chain approach crunch point, the sector has warned.

Of course you can write angry letters to your MP about training people up but the supermarkets will still be empty.

Its not like they couldn't have predicted it?

What do you call a business that fails to plan for an obvious change? Oh yes STUPID.

Raise the wages, supply good secure jobs they will have plenty of people coming out of retirement or taking the 1-2 week Class II & I course.

          https://www.drivingtalent.co.uk/hgv-...uired-to-pass/

4-6 weeks it takes. £1.5-3K cost.

Were I Boris I would offer the Army drivers at £400 a day then see how fast they train up.

It's not just the drivers, UK food manufacturing is slowly collapsing.

Chronic driver shortages have been compounded by shortfalls across other low-paid sectors including harvesting, manufacturing and packaging, and the supply chain is creaking under the pressure.
From agriculture where there is no-one to harvest the fields to packing the food. No point paying £400 a day to drive around in an empty lorry.

Nah, have you not heard his wisdom? It's everyone else's fault, they need to retain and automate. Why didn't these companies think of this themselves?

How many unemployed people, or even low paid people, do you know who could afford to pay £1.5-£3k to retrain as a lorry driver (assuming they even want to be a lorry driver)?

You are naive at best ... but I think your problem is deeper than that mate.

                  1. You can get loans. But of course going from minimum wage to minimum wage is hardly attractive so many won't do it.
                  2. If employers need drivers maybe they should pay?
                  3. If Employers paid more and offered more security (its zero hours agency work mainly) people might want to become lorry drivers.
                  4. Plenty of lowly paid people did cisco & security qualifications and did well.

Make the jobs secure and well paid all of a sudden you will have applicants.

I'm not naive, I'm not the one supporting near slavery.
Do you charge £80 a day then? Why not some people are only willing to pay that!

You are f***ing joking. Class C drivers don't last more than a few weeks. They are paid less the shelf stackers. HGV drivers are on about £12 per hour.
