I'm not so sure this argument holds up. If we build a right hand drive car for let's say the RSA, then it is likely to be a different spec to one built for use in the UK. UK built vehicles for Eire now have speedos calibrated in kph. Similarly, German made left hand drive cars destined for the USA will also have a different spec. from home market cars. The point I'm making is, we should only need to follow EU rules for products that are to be sold in the EU, just as we do now for left hand drive cars made in the UK for use in the EU. If we decide that our home market products should be built/grown to a different spec., then we should not be required to follow EU rules. -
I'm not saying we 'have' to follow EU rules, I'm saying we are writing EU rules into UK law on Brexit day and hence, we will have UK laws that are the same as EU laws. Over time we may find time in Westminster to re-write some of these laws but many (probably most!) will just be adopted and never changed.Originally posted by JohntheBike View PostI'm not so sure this argument holds up. Possibly, but then any new EU laws that the UK parliament doesn't like, will not need to be followed, e.g. conscription to an EU army, allowing Turkey into the EU, etc, etc.Originally posted by Whorty View PostI'm not saying we 'have' to follow EU rules, I'm saying we are writing EU rules into UK law on Brexit day and hence, we will have UK laws that are the same as EU laws. Which neatly gives the lie to the hysterical trumped-up notion that we are, or indeed have ever been, anywhere near to any "cliff-edge".Originally posted by Whorty View PostI'm not saying we 'have' to follow EU rules, I'm saying we are writing EU rules into UK law on Brexit day and hence, we will have UK laws that are the same as EU laws. There is a difference between enshrining EU law into UK statute law and trade agreements. Shame you don't understand this but it's not surprising.Originally posted by shaunbhoy View PostWhich neatly gives the lie to the hysterical trumped-up notion that we are, or indeed have ever been, anywhere near to any "cliff-edge".

It's also a shame you lot don't understand that whilst we 'can' set our own laws we will just adopt what the EU has written .... so much for taking back control of our laws eh?

You're talking crap fella. Why not go back to reading the Express or Fail, that's about your level of intellect? No one has said we will need to follow EU laws once we leave ... that's what 'leave' meansOriginally posted by JohntheBike View PostPossibly, but then any new EU laws that the UK parliament doesn't like, will not need to be followed, e.g. conscription to an EU army, allowing Turkey into the EU, etc, etc.
As for the EU army or Turkey, FFS, you guys really are scraping the barrel.

Really? So, certain Senior members of the Irish Army haven't been based in Brussels for the past 7 years making preparations for Joint European Armed Forces under control of the European Parliament?Originally posted by Whorty View PostYou're talking crap fella. I'd better find out what Uncle John has been up to in Brussels for the past few years then.Comment

I didn't say there wouldn't be an EU army although joint operations is not the same as an EU army, I poo-poo'd the Project Fear conscription lie that you lot keep pedalingOriginally posted by Zigenare View PostReally? Most of you lot are too old and useless anyway so even if there was conscription you'd be last on their list. Poo-poo'd the lie that 78 million Turks are coming to Europe too

There already is an army based in Brussels, but Ireland are not part of it, in the same way that Ireland are not intending to join any European army, should it ever happen:Originally posted by Zigenare View PostReally? Taoiseach says Ireland will not be joining a European army
But I realise you know more about Ireland than the Irish do, and have no interest in considering anything that at all challenges your viewpoint.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment
