You took care of the Russkie threat .... ha ha ha ... you brave little soldierOriginally posted by shaunbhoy View PostDid 13 years, 1976-89. Long enough to help win the Cold War.
I decided to move on once we had taken care of the Russkie threat.
Coincided nicely with the explosion in worldwide Mobile Networks that has made me so much dosh over the years.

Anyway, still not convinced by the above. Let's assume you joined the army at 16, that would mean born in 1960 and about 58 years old now. To be fair, I had you down as a spotty school kid given the tripe you post, but actually you're an old man who's losing his marbles. Best treat you with more respect in future as it's cruel to mock the senile.
Also, why are you spending so much time on here when you should have retired by now? If you really have made loads of dosh, and let's face it Devon is not exactly an expensive height of fashion hot spot, so you should be living the easy life. Or could it be that you're typical of the Brexit voting loser and you've not been so successful in life and the leave vote is your way to punish those that come after you and to stop them reaping the benefits you wasn't bright enough to get yourself?Last edited by Whorty; 23 October 2018, 12:58.I am what I drink, and I'm a bitter man

13 years of service (especially abroad) should be enough to max out NCO rank.
1989 USSR was at peak power anyway, so when shauny run away from the Army for big money in telecoms he certainly did not do it at the time when Russki threat was over.Comment

Maybe in the Dutch Army. It hardly really matters there as they only have to last 5 days before surrendering to the Germans anyway.Originally posted by Eirikur View PostIt's usually the brainless who can't think for themselves and the criminals who they take on in the army.

By the end of 1989 Hungary had dismantled its border fence with Austria, Solidarity had swept into power in Poland, the Baltic states were taking concrete steps toward independence, and the Berlin Wall had been toppled. The Iron Curtain had fallen, and the Soviet Union would not long outlast it.

I'm going with you being uneducated, at least nothing past 16 years old. Maybe a few CSEs but as you had to join the army as no one else would take you I'm pretty sure you didn't get an education past school.Originally posted by shaunbhoy View PostNuff said.

Yes, that seems to be your preferred method......select the outcome that supports your unverifiable logic then twist reality to make it somehow fit.Originally posted by Whorty View PostI'm going with you being uneducated, at least nothing past 16 years old.
In fact, I left school at 18 with some Highers and a sizeable clutch of good grade O Levels to boot.
I also continued further education at the Army's expense once qualified, but this merely supplemented the excellent training that the military provided.
A very successful regime that places far more emphasis upon one's ability to get results under pressure than simple academic fact regurgitation.
Didn't "have to" at all. I chose to. And as it happened, selection was not based on your academic qualifications whatsoever in any case.Originally posted by Whorty View PostMaybe a few CSEs but as you had to join the army as no one else would take you I'm pretty sure you didn't get an education past school.
Although a good maths and science background proved very helpful once the technical training began, the options open to you were decided solely upon just how well you performed in a wide range of IQ and aptitude tests.
The higher you scored, the more choice you had. As I scored an exceptionally high tally, I had my pick of jobs.
The rest is history as they say.
No, looks like you will have to head back to that drawing board and completely revamp your rather ludicrous assumptions to have any hope of arriving anywhere near to the actual reality.
