Would hardline brexiteers be willing to give up NI altogheter

If Northern Ireland turns out to be the stumbling block for full brexit. And let it unite with the south or give it a similar status as the IOM, Channel Islands or the BVI so it can become another money laundering paradise?

    Just curious

Does anyone in England really want NI? Not really, it’s nowt but trouble. But if we let it go it’ll turn into a war zone again. The problem isn’t England wanting to keep it, it’s the ***** who live there.

NI is a financial drain on the UK.

For 2012-13 the estimated fiscal balance in NI was a deficit of £9.5 billion. That's the equivalent of £5,187 per head, compared to the UK average of £1,999.
The 2013-14 ‘fiscal deficit' decreased to £9.2 billion. The equivalent of £5,006 per head. This compared to a UK per head figure of £1,763.

So, financially it would be in the UK's interest to lose that drain, but how much would it cost in the negotiations, and could the rest of Ireland afford the costs of NI? It's one thing to say that someones' political/idealogical goal is to unite the island, but if it bankrupts the island, it's maybe not a good thing to do at the minute.

According to 'figures', Scotland is also a drain on the UK. Shouldn't the UK government then be advocating its break up on financial grounds ?

Sorry I didn't link to my source for the data, but here it is:
                https://www.finance-ni.gov.uk/public...13-and-2013-14

Scotland isn't as sticky a subject as:
                1. They don't have a physical land border with an EU country
                2. The question of Scotland being part of the UK has not caused 3,000+ deaths in the last few decades
                3. Scotland has somewhere to house nuclear subs
                4. Scotland has somewhere to house Paul Dacre
                5. Scotland has oil
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore
