The more a GE polarises to Leave vs. Remain, the more Remain is trounced in terms of Parliamentary seats. in that sense, this result is quite encouragingOriginally posted by VectraMan View PostCome on Theresa. Give us a General Election.
However, May won't be oblivious to the similarities between Richmond and Maidenhead in terms of her personal ambitions. Imagine that: a landslide for pro-Leave MPs, a massive Tory majority, and the PM loses her seat

Very dangerous for the Tories as shows that the electorate is clearly going to vote tactically to get the Tories out, which means the result of a GE is anything but a foregone conclusion.

As much as I would like to believe this, Richmond really was a Tory anomaly. From a friends FB post who knows her stuff; there are nine of the top thirty Tory held Lib Dem Seats that voted remain but only two by a significant remain vote share.Originally posted by BlasterBates View PostVery dangerous for the Tories as shows that the electorate is clearly going to vote tactically to get the Tories out, which means the result of a GE is anything but a foregone conclusion.

Much more interesting is Sleaford by-election next week, 75% Brexit vote if the Tories lose the seat all bets are off.Last edited by BlueSharp; 2 December 2016, 09:05.Make Mercia Great Again!Comment

It's a foregone conclusion that Parliament would be massively rebalanced away from Remain and towards Leave and that Labour would cease to be a credible opposition. The demographics of the Leave vote are fantastic in terms of Parliamentary seats, and there's no evidence of buyer's remorse (on the contrary, many Remainers now want May to get on with it). I think we're agreed: bring on a GE and make Parliament representative again on the major issue of our times!Originally posted by BlasterBates View PostVery dangerous for the Tories as shows that the electorate is clearly going to vote tactically to get the Tories out, which means the result of a GE is anything but a foregone conclusion.

. The only downside is that we'd inevitably end up with more Lib Dumbs too.

You're assuming that a GE would be a choice between Remain and Leave, but it's not, it's a choice between "Soft Brexit" and "Hard Brexit". There are a huge number of leave voters that don't want a "Hard Brexit", and a lot of young voters who didn't bother last time, motivated to get out there.Originally posted by jamesbrown View PostIt's a foregone conclusion that Parliament would be massively rebalanced away from Remain and towards Leave and that Labour would cease to be a credible opposition. Really? I mean, they couldn't be arsed to go and vote on the single most important issue facing the country in decades, and all of a sudden they are champing at the bit? I doubt that somehow.Originally posted by BlasterBates View Posta lot of young voters who didn't bother last time, motivated to get out there.“The period of the disintegration of the European Union has begun.
