Were the Victorians cleverer than us? The decline in general intelligence estimated from a meta-analysis of the slowing of simple reaction time
For extra proof read CUK General
The Victorian era was marked by an explosion of innovation and genius, per capita rates of which appear to have declined subsequently. The presence of dysgenic fertility for IQ amongst Western nations, starting in the 19th century, suggests that these trends might be related to declining IQ.
The most potent source of originality is solitude in early age, from say three to seven, and that's in ever shorter supply these days with population increase and rising housing density and, worst of all, infant schooling from a ridiculously young age.
Why do you think the Chinese, clever as they are in many ways, notoriously tend to be short on true creativity? It's because Chinese kids probably rarely if ever find themselves on their own.
We shouldn't take British originality and creativity for granted, because the way things are going there will be far less of it in years to come.Work in the public sector? Read the IR35 FAQ hereComment

Anyway, reaction times don't seem a very good measure of IQ. IQ is more about the ability to make meaningful connections, whether rapidly or not.
Cats have lightning fast reactions, but aren't really very intelligent. Also a slow elderly person could be far more intelligent than a champion boxer in tip-top physical form.Work in the public sector? Read the IR35 FAQ hereComment

Brexit talks to be completed in 15 months
