You may hope for a particular outcome, but there's no credible evidence for a Lib Dem fight back, nationally, or any path to success for an anti-Brexit coalition. As far as I can see, a GE would be the worst possible outcome for continuity remain, because it would form the basis for a strong Tory majority in the HoC and bypass any blocking in the HoL completely, even without HoL reform (i.e. Salisbury Convention).

A YouGov poll suggested that if a hypothetical Stop Brexit party put up candidates at an election, it would get the support of 25.9% of voters (including 4% of those who voted leave), leaving Labour trailing on 18.7% (the Tories, the poll says, would be on 34%).

I'm not sure you understand the implications of that article. You need to translate the popular vote into seats. Here's one attempt:

Anti-Brexit parties would win 150 fewer seats than pro-Leave parties at a general election, analysis suggests

It's not straightforward to do this, but I'm not the one making bold claims about the Lib Dems . Show me any recent analysis where an anti-Brexit coalition would comprise anything close to a majority of seats. All the evidence points to a loss of seats for continuity remainers, and that's before any of the internal pressures that would lead to candidate de/re-selection.

LibDems went from 9% to 30% in the Witney by-election. And Witney is as true-blue as it gets. Clearly that's about Brexit and the large number of people who couldn't bring themselves to vote Tory after the Brexit debacle.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

You need a history lesson on by-elections. They're an established protest vote, always reflected in turnout. What was the turnout in Whitney vs. a GE? Compare and contrast with a GE scenario where Corbyn is on the ballot.

Why isn't that by-election result reflected in the national polling? Hint: it isn't because the national polling is unreliable.

In fairness your only defence is mockery. Much like the Daily whale on our democracy.

Duncehood is something that you could only hope to aspire to. At least vetran and DA (and even GB9 from time to time) have a sense of humour. With your unremitting humourless snarkiness and misery, have you thought of auditioning for Eastenders?

I will never get over the embarrassment of belonging to the same species as you. You give mammals a bad name.

You have all the appeal of a paper cut.

If you aren't an idiot, you've made a world-class effort at simulating one.
On a good day you're a half-wit. You remind me of drool. You are deficient in all that lends character. You have the personality of wallpaper.

I cannot believe how incredibly stupid you are. I mean rock-hard stupid. Dehydrated-rock-hard stupid. Stupid so stupid that it goes way beyond the stupid we know into a whole different dimension of stupid. You are trans-stupid stupid. Meta-stupid. Stupid collapsed on itself so far that even the neutrons have collapsed. Stupid gotten so dense that no intellect can escape. Singularity stupid. Blazing hot mid-day sun on the warm side of Mercury stupid. You emit more stupid in one second than our entire galaxy emits in a year. Quasar stupid. Your writing has to be a troll. Nothing in our universe can really be this stupid.

Perhaps this is some primordial fragment from the original big bang of stupid. Some pure essence of a stupid so uncontaminated by anything else as to be beyond the laws of physics that we know. I'm sorry. I can't go on. This is an epiphany of stupid for me. After this, you may not hear from me again for a while. I don't have enough strength left to deride your ignorant questions and half baked comments about unimportant trivia, or any of the rest of your drivel.

The only thing worse than your logic is your manners.

                And you're boring...
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

Touch a nerve did I? Sent you into full-on copy-and-paste mode. Do you google witty retorts because you are ill-equipped to spontaneously come up with any of your own?
What a dreary twunt you are.

I am going to have to half agree with you here shauny. Don't get me wrong - you're a ******* idiot, probably the thickest of all CUKkers, but I've come to appreciate your clumsy and cheerful attempts at humour. You just don't care how stupid you are, and I respect that.

Corbyn challenges May to agree to Labour's EU demands or he will force a GE.
Well, anyone who said Corbyn was thick needs to think again.

                      What he asks for are:
                      • UK access to 500 million customers in Europe’s single market.
                      • No watering down of EU workplace rights.
                      • Guarantees on safeguarding consumers and the environment.
                      • Pledges on Britain picking up the tab for any EU capital investment lost by Brexit

These are all what May and indeed most Leavers want. Note, nothing about free movement of people.

So May says, "Yes Jeremy. You can have those". Jeremy then claims he forced the PM into giving him what he wants. A50 triggered and no freedom of movement in the plan.

The reality is, Jezza is a Leaver.
