Fairly new to contracting myself to be honest, I found all the information out there an absolute nightmare. I used an accountant called Contractor Unlimited (anyone know them?). The only criticism I have so far is they seem a bit old fashioned- they don't have an online portal as of yet- so have to stick all my stuff in an envelope every week. Apart from that they seem to know their stuff, Tony knows what he is on about and pretty much runs my company for me now.

Assuming this isn't just an advertising post then I would strongly advise you sort that situation out pretty damn quickly. You accountant provides a service to your company for which you are legally responsible as you sign it off at the end of the day. Sitting back and letting your accountant run it is irresponsible and pretty daft IMO.Originally posted by schisnall78 View PostFairly new to contracting myself to be honest, I found all the information out there an absolute nightmare. Agree to that
I too definitely agree to the fact that you can't let your accountant run your business. A contractor should be fully aware of how his accounts are being prepared by the accountant otherwise they might be in for some nasty surprises from HMRC.Originally posted by LisaContractorUmbrella View PostAgree with the guys - you are at serious risk if you allow an accountant to 'pretty much run' your businessComment

Has anyone used clever accounts (admin note URL removed) ?
Software looks nice and it is only 100£, including insurances (if I look at Qdos insurance it's 147£ just for the Professional Indemnity Insurance).
I know next to nothing on accounting so I probably missed something obvious
Thanks !Comment

Personally I would want a specialist to do my IR35 reviews not my accountant. I would also want my insurance from a reputable source. Might be ok that lot don't get me wrong but I pay for these services to stay safe so I want the best people on the job, not some freebies thrown in to what is already an option that looks too cheap. The prices the pros are charging are hardly sky high. Just my opinion.Originally posted by Balthek View PostHas anyone used clever accounts (admin note URL removed) ?

That was my reasoning as well.
It's just that I was quite surprised when I found out this one yesterday and couldn't find any mention of it in this forum.
Thanks for the answer !Comment
