    ???

Something occurred to me on the train home last night. Everyone knows that soon Mr. Brown and his crew will be voted out, so isn't it in their interests to leave the state of the economy in such a bad way that Mr. Cameron and his crew have a harder task of running this country when they take over?

Has anyone suggested this to the treasury and thus it's better for them to overturn this retrospective tax grab BEFORE they leave?

In the grand scheme of things, the amounts they stand to collect from S58 are piffling. Even their best estimate is only a couple of hundred million, and they know full well that many people won't have the money, especially in the depths of a major recession.

If you factor in the costs of fighting the legal challenges, the admin overheads of chasing 2000 people, taking people to court, bankruptcy proceedings, the whole thing is a complete farce.

This tax has never been about collecting revenue, it's about punishment, vindictiveness, inflicting pain and suffering.

Why do you think they picked on this scheme, and not the ones used by Tesco, Barclays, footballers, fat cats, celebrities? Because people with "real money" would just laugh it off.

It's only the likes of us where they can inflict real injury.

I just asked for all paper and electronic records HMRC hold on me.

However, you could go for a more focused request and just ask for all data held by NTSCI Salford (ie Mr YouKnowWho & Co).

Or how about all personal records they hold on you related to the double tax scheme covered by S58 FA2008.

However, if in doubt, just ask for everything. You never know what it might dredge up.

DPA requests - expect the brush off

HMRC may try to play silly buggers with these requests and interpret them in a way which suits them ie. least amount of effort.

Please share your experience, good or bad, so we can refine the wording of the requests to defeat the bureaucrats.

DPA Request - Just Done It!

                  *** HEADS UP PLEASE ***

I've just submitted my DPA Request...thanks SantaClaus, great work there...

I know its early days and SantaClaus has only just put up his DPA thread a couple of days ago...but I was hoping that by now a few more people would have submitted DPA Requests by now...

Can everyone reading this thread...and I mean EVERYONE....please, please, please go to the following link and submit their application...

                  https://online.hmrc.gov.uk/shortform...ww.hmrc.gov.uk

It is unbelievably simple to do...all you need is your name/address/email address/NI Number and Tax Reference number (from your last tax return)...

The text I added in the free-form box was as follows...'Please provide copies of all paper and electronic records held on me.'.....just go ahead and copy/paste this...

THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT...Simple, Job Done!....it will take you less than 2 minutes of your time...it will probably take up several hours of HMRC time to comply...

So many of us have written to our MPs and received bog-standard replies...its been over a month now and we are still waiting for a reply from HM Treasury...submit your DPA Request and they HAVE to reply within 40 days...

Admit it.....Don't you want to know what HMRC have been saying about you?...Don't you want to know what records they hold on you...I know I do...

Go on, JUST DO IT...you know it makes sense!

                    !
I am sure the question on everybody's mind is > what can we expect to achieve from this?

Apart from wasting HMRC's time...(which incidentally will be a admin clerk in another department, not anybody working on our cases; so not sure what wasting their time will achieve). My concern is that a pissed off clerk will *flag* something on my account to make me more of a target for whatever else they want to make up.

Not trying be be negative but I assume the reason a lot of people have not submitted is just for that reason.

Writing to MPs has had a positive effect and it was easy to see why it would. I would like to see all effort concentrated on putting enough pressure on the MPs so that our cause is raised in parliament and and answer demanded from our government.

Keep it up all, we are making really good progress.
