Tories and S58
Originally posted by silver_lining View PostIts a shame the tories won't agree to reverse S.58 when they are in office.... and I do wonder why about that?
Given all that has taken place over the 12 months in this government, it is genuinely scary to think they are a serious players wrt leglisation in this country.
Whenever a court case goes against the Government on human rights grounds, it immediately gets referred to the JCHR, who then recommend an appropriate response. My guess is that a Tory majority on the JCHR would advocate repeal of the legislation. They could lay the blame squarely on the previous Labour administration for this shambles.
Of course, we need to win the JR first.Comment

However, since the taxes Act 2003 politicians have been allowed all of the expenses claimed as being exempt from tax provided that they were necessarily incurred in performance of their duties. HMRC have indicated that they may change that process (or lack of it) and following the Telegraph relevations take a longer look at it. It would be nice to see them do that properly and go back the full 6 years and demand penalties and interest.
This would be a good revenue source for an incoming Government...Join the No To Retro Tax Campaign Now

Unbelievable
Just received a letter from Timms.
It is word for word identical to the letter he sent me on 23rd December!!!
It is clear that they have no intention whatsoever in answering our questions.
We could complain through our MP but all that will happen is another 2-3 month delay before the Treasury issues another load of twaddle.
I believe our best bet for getting answers is through FOI and by getting the JCHR to look at it.Last edited by DonkeyRhubarb; 11 May 2009, 12:27.Comment

Maybe putting the questions to him face to face he would not be able to wriggle out of it. Although...would not want to antogonise him and give him more reason to go after us.Comment

The only way I'd want to meet him is as part of a group.Comment
