Correct. If you owe "well over" £250,000 - you would [at the very least!] have some kind of basic idea of what’s going on and have carried out [at least!] a little research.

Your posts do not indicate this. They are generally negative and often just wrong (have a look people!). For example in a few of your posts you talk about penalties (at least 40%... etc). One phone call to HMRC or MP would have informed you that there has never been a question of penalties. With your liability you would have looked into this.

Nope - doesn't add up. I am unconvinced that you are a contractor earning - by your own indication - "well over" £620 per day (based on your supposed liability).
I think you are one of the "special" people sitting in that 60s office block in Liverpool with the other miserable, work-shy drones at HMRC. You must be bored. What do the people up there do all day? Run eBay businesses? You don’t do proper research; that’s for sure. Or get your admin done in a timely fashion.

Anyway - you have apparently already written a cheque for your CTD, so if you are who you say you are, then congratulations on saving so well over the past few years and at least you will keep your house unlike some other people here.

BTW - The chances of us winning the JR are very good. A successful JR will facilitate a challenge to the legislation at the ECoHR. The ECoHR has ruled favourably in many cases such as these in the past. Research people! It's all there. All is not lost - quite the opposite.

Try to remain upbeat about this. Think how good you will feel when we win! Don’t let them drag you down!! They want us to fight like this.

What can the judicial review actually achieve? - I understand from wikipedia that in the UK they cannot reverse the law.

Actually that is true. The ECJ CANNOT reverse UK law.

They can order it to be updated to be compatible, or struck out. We could choose not to, then it eventually becomes handbags at dawn. We have not generally been particularly quick in responding to these directives.

Quite right. It was the author's prefered research tool I thought was laughable. From what I understand the ECJ cannot reverse the law - but they can recommend that it is changed and this always happens - otherwise it would render the whole mechanism useless.

I think the human rights point is based on the this, the opening
              page of the Finance Bill:

              "EUROPEAN CONVENTION ON HUMAN RIGHTS
Lord Davies of Oldham has made the following
statement under section 19(1)(a) of the Human Rights Act 1998:

In my view the provisions of the Finance Bill are compatible with the Convention rights."

Should the JR say the bill is incompatible, this is obviously broken, and
Lord Davies will be in hot water !

May I respectfully suggest that we refrain from naming any specific HMRC people or any sort of personal attacks on them.

The reason the old thread was locked was police involvement - and the issue was just as much naming as the comments.

When in a hole - stop digging! Lets not make anything worse.....

If anyone wants personal or divorce advice - and they I can help - they are welcome to PM or email me. I have been as low as anyone can go - and in my case it was due to divorce - my issue was never finding people to talk through but finding people who actually understood what I was going through.....

yeh it sucks but the last 6 months of stress and worry with the threat of bankruptcy hanging over my head have changed me as a person and probably made me into a complete git....!! to be honest it would have been much better had it been a short sharp process, not draggin on and on and on with an unknown outcome...
