All I'd say here is don't buy it from your accountant. Whenever I've heard any accountants talk about offering this to their clients, they chuckle about the fact they add a huge markup on the premium itself, then if ever HMRC query anything, the accountant can get paid £££ from the insurer for dealing with it.

Fear sells, and it's an easy way your accountant can cream extra cash from you without you realising.

If you're going to get insurance like this, make sure it benefits you, not your accountant.

Apart from anything else, this is one way to guarantee an MSCP/MSC relationship under ITEPA Ch. 9, so if you know of any accountants doing that, I despair.

Good God, who thinks these things up.

I spotted that IPSE is still proposing this, no idea why. As if things aren't complicated enough!

As a long term PCG/IPSE customer, I do wonder if they're struggling with offerings for contractors and umbrella workers; it seems to me that their focus now is on self-employed freelancers.

I retain my IPSE subscription for run-off insurance; I wonder how many of us are in this category and will be unsubscribing in the next couple of years.

Well sticking with this FLC crapola, dosen't really smell like delivering value. I personally wouldn't give them 10 pence if they were begging in the street. I heard some rumours during covid and i'm struggling to work out how they are still in business. Yes, they have customers, but for how long? I had a quick look at their webtulipe for the first time in a very long time, not much value there either.

They lost their way a while ago. They still have a couple of good people who are listened to in Westminster, but they are in survival mode. Most of the announcements are about keeping up the pretence they are still relevant.

As for the FTC, it may just have worked 12 years ago when it was drafted, it won't fly now in any shape or form. Just like Starmer and Reeves, they are issuing statements of intent with no idea how to deliver them.
