Accountant Recommendation

I use Crunch Accounting.
They don't use FreeAgent but have their own online portal and you always know what you can take out of the company in real time.
You record your expenses and invoices/sales, and they do everything else (payroll, VAT, end of year accounts, etc.) - always on time too.
You should definitely check them out. -

I have done some research already and looked at and spoken briefly to:-
- Gorilla Accounting (Adam Scholes) - saw a thread about their marketing which wasn't positive
- Fox Bartfield (Darren Roberts) - can't see any reviews for this firm
- SJD accountancy (Donna) - mixed reviews
- Nixon Williams (waiting for a call back)
I note that FreeAgent is very popular so should I ensure the firm uses this? It seems like an extremely popular tool.
Thanks in advance.Comment

SJD - mixed reviews, were very good, now almost universally bad. Don't even think about them. The rest are fine, I'm with Dynamo personally.
If only we had a sticky listing all the decent accountants...Blog? What blog...?Comment

Here is the sticky.

If you want to see what people are saying then pick the company name and use a google search to look through the forums. Type the following in to google.

Actually, given the changes and acquisitions at the top f the market in the last year or so, I think we should bin that thread and start a new one. The OP finding mixed reviews for SJD, for example (there are no doubt others...), may be more a case of older posts rather than current realityBlog? What blog...?Comment

Everyone on your list has been recommended by multiple people on multiple forums at one time or another so, IMHO you're doing the right thing in talking to them and seeing where you fit with them and what kind of feeling you get. When I changed accountant, I ruled some out based on the company they keep (eg the style and location of their adverts). If I was waiting for a while for a call back then I wouldn't wait too long, for example. If I couldn't speak to someone about my specifics then I would be wary.
And if the accountant didn't use Freeagent as part of their standard fee package then I'd not bother with them.I'm not fat, I'm just fluffy.Comment

Sound Advice

I have deleted a number of posts here as other accountants started piling in with the ‘pick me!’ posts.
I do not expect to do this again..."I can put any old tat in my sig, put quotes around it and attribute to someone of whom I've heard, to make it sound true."
