Does APN show as tax to pay online ?

Can someone who's received an APN demand (not warning) say how it shows in their Self assessment online statement of account ? Presumably it shows as tax owed ?

That statement is both so right and so wrong at the same time.

It does show as under appeal online.

        It is disputed.

You do owe HMRC money if you get a demand.

Only when the dispute is settled and there is a final reckoning of the tax will you (and HMRC) know what is owed.

          Refunds

I'm going through that nonsense again where they withhold refunds.

I requested the refund online. Nothing happened and no message was left for me through the system.
They just decided not to bother. I went back in today and it says "Request a refund" like nothing was ever entered before.

          So, I requested one again.

Will have to call them up soon.

Cannot blame the common man for being confused, when HMRC's (re)definitions of anything run contrary to basic common sense.
(tax "under appeal" yet "owed" at the same time, legislation that is for all intents and purposes 100% retrospective, but that HMRC insist "is not retrospective", etc. etc.)

              Latest NTRT E-mail received today

              Hi all,

Interesting e-mail today...looking forward to the next newsletter with all the details etc.

So it mentions that this only applies to freelance contractors...I imagine that's the vast majority of users. I considered myself freelance (i.e. fixed term contracts, even though all my MTM income was from the same client over the three years I was with the scheme). Hoping it applies to me..pretty confident that it does!

It means contractors as opposed to property developers.

I tried to get a refund of a small amount owed me by HMRC using the online option, but I had the same experience as you.
Phoned them up and eventually got through to the Anti Avoidance department (tel: 03000 532 489). Seems that if you have an open enquiry the online option doesn't work. In my case as the refund was nothing to do with the enquiry, they said they would process the refund. Waiting to see if it really happens this time. Hope that helps.

                      Yes it helped, thanks.

Phoned them up, got straight through. The guy looked into it, called me back and said he would initiate the refund. He took the time to make sure I was aware of "a large underpayment from 2006".
