I know most FTP clients these days support continuing paused/aborted transfers; but suppose that was unreliable above a certain file size or didn't work after a reboot.Work in the public sector? Read the IR35 FAQ hereComment

Having said that one easy way is to install FTP Server like filezilla on their PC and start downloading using ftp client of your choice (for example filezilla gain). Any decent client will support resuming of the download and FTP has the least amount of overhead.
You may need to open up outgoing ports 21 & 22 on their router but given that logme in already works you must have gone through that exercise alreadyComment
