Not tried Ultraedit but texpad is cheaper at 16.50. Got the odd bug, like cursor sometimes not lining up with char at end of lines, but change to fixed width font sorts that.

Someone posted a link to this last week: Ninite Easy PC Setup - Silent Unattended Install Multiple Programs At Once
It installed almost everything I needed after my recent upgrade, very slick.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

Oh, all right then - all Mac-based except when cross-platformOriginally posted by d000hg View PostI'm waiting to see NickFitz's list.
(I'll take stuff that comes with the OS for granted - things like Safari, iMovie, iTunes, iDVD, and so forth.)
- Eclipse with various plugins:
- OxygenXML - the XSLT Debugger is a godsend
- Whatever's good for PHP
- Whatever's good for JavaScript/CSS/(X)HTML (although OxygenXML covers all of those)
- Whatever's good for SQL
- Whatever's good for Subversion integration
- Pydev
- A bunch of other stuff that I install and never actually use, it just sits there bloating the installation until I finally get around to removing it
- Transmit (FTP/Amazon S3 client)
- Firefox with Firebug, ElasticFox (for AWS), MeasureIt, ColorZilla
- Opera
- Chrome
- Charles (HTTP debugging proxy - like Fiddler, but better in certain ways)
- Adium
- NetNewsWire (feed reader)
- Parallels Desktop (for Windows/Linux VMs)
- iWork suite (Pages for WP/DTP, Numbers for spreadsheets, Keynote for presentations)
- OS X and iOS Developer Tools (XCode, Interface Builder, iPhone/iPad Simulator, loads of additional utilities, all free)
- Chicken of the VNC
- Gimp
- Inkscape
- BBC iPlayer Desktop
- Audio Hijack Pro
- Fission
- Hex Fiend
- SuperDuper!
I think that covers the basics

Quite a few already listed (Notepad++, MeasureIt and ColorZilla plugins, Spotify, a selection of browsers) and also Screengrab and FireFTP plugins and Paint.NET, which is my preferred tightwad's version of Photoshop. Never got on with Gimp, personally, but probably didn't give it enough of a chance as lots of people recommend it.
I've also found IETester very useful for work - gives you the option to view a page in various versions of IE, along with a basic debug toolbar which at least tries to help unravel the mysteries of the freak browser.
Edit: There's also a useful iPhone/iPad "emulator" - iBBDemo2 - which puts a webkit browser into an iPhone or iPad layout, which at least gives a rough idea of how bad your site looks on an iPhone. My personal site, which I last updated a couple of years ago and am rebuilding at the moment, includes a couple of dabs of Flash, which I'd forgotten about (yes, they are that subtle) till I tried this emulator and noticed the strange gaps.Last edited by dang65; 1 September 2010, 21:07.Comment
