I got extra stuff too, new case, 2 extra hdds for nas, new gigaswitch & cables, ned cd/dvd burner - everything in total about 2600 EUR

should last a couple of years before e complete rebuild. incremental upgrades will have to do in the mean time.

somehow I like having a fast pc more then the raw utility value justifies.

oh - on ie6 it is fine.

a guy is oc'ing his i7 920 from 2.6 to 4.5ghz on air cooling - impressive - and there is a step by step gyude to repeat his success - sounds like a project for tonight.

W7 doesn't thrash the swap file nearly as much. Also, SSDs are much improved including the ability to rotate where on disk is used. But, having a SSD + traditional disk is perhaps still the best route.

in 1 year when SSD is more mature I agree with you.

                You're running IE6 on Windows 7?

I didn't think that was even possible

I upped the core frequency from 133 (133=2660mhz) to 166 and I am now running at 3350mhz which is equal to the i7 965 which costs 999 EUR and not 250 EUR like mine.

I am amazed at how eazy it is.

And it seems stable even after some burn in programs that taxes all cores 100%.

I guess I really just saved 750 EUR.

                    I can only recommend it.

                      Result

I remember being stunned at how easy it was to overclock my 7800GT video card - essentially just a button click to determine the optimum speed. Seems like the motherboard manufacturers are now savvy to this as well, making it easier to get more out of your system.

I'm thinking it may be time to hand my current desktop rig down to DS1, and build myself a new one...
Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?
