I need a new tellybox

I live in a basement flat in London

i live in a flat and find a samsung 32" HD tv to be more than adequate.
4k is meaningless below cinema sized things IMO.
and the smart stuff is great
(hard wired to the router though)

I have a couple of non smart Samsung TVs, main TV is LG 55 smart Webos, I like the wavy remote. Have a look around, then buy one from Argos, if you don't like it send it back.

We've got a Firestick in every TV we have. I haven't use the Smart functionality of any of them for as long as I can remember now.

Firesticks give some smart tv functionality, so it's not massively surprising. That's the point. Get a smart TV and you don't need these extras. Does it even cost more? It's just android and little linux box.

We've had them so long I forget why we bought them. I've a feeling it was for Amazon Prime or if it was because our main TV stopped supporting some of the apps. If have to check the functionality of the new ones when I get round to getting a new TV so l you could be right.. Which would be a first

Sounds ideal for a mini LED projector. Mount it on a ceiling rail and move it closer for a TV size picture and back for cinema size. Paint the wall a suitable colour and no screen on show. Natural light situation, or lack of it is also a win.

The Firestick is good for hotels (which don't have smart TVs in the room) as they connect directly to the interweb whereas the Google things requires connectivity via the hotel's router.

HWMBO has advised me to ignore all you lot and just get a cheap as chips TV that has a good picture. I should forget the smart side of it as that will become obsolete long before the TV wears out and it'll be cheaper to add on the functionality (e.g. with a firestick) and replace that when necessary.

No such thing as a good picture unless you pay for it - the smart stuff will be identical from the cheapest model to the most expensive - as you write it once for the manufacturing year and deploy it everywhere. So what you are paying for is better tolerances and grades of product from within the manufacturing process.
