A couple of other posters backed me up so some of us on this thread aren't talking tulip but from experience.

Oh I think all my TVs are from Amazon. So I didn't have to deal with getting them home and could easily complain if they arrived damaged. What the manufacturers do is slightly change the model number so you can't buy the exactly the same model number in Amazon, JL, Curry's, Sainsburys, etc and do a proper price comparison.

HWMBO has advised me to ignore all you lot and just get a cheap as chips TV that has a good picture. I should forget the smart side of it as that will become obsolete long before the TV wears out and it'll be cheaper to add on the functionality (e.g. with a firestick) and replace that when necessary.

4K TVs are pointless, unless you have a big screen and sit a long way from it.

But you can't get anything else unless you get something really tulip..

No such thing as a good picture unless you pay for it - the smart stuff will be identical from the cheapest model to the most expensive - as you write it once for the manufacturing year and deploy it everywhere. So what you are paying for is better tolerances and grades of product from within the manufacturing process.

Firesticks give some smart tv functionality, so it's not massively surprising. That's the point. Get a smart TV and you don't need these extras. Does it even cost more? It's just android and little linux box.

The Firestick is good for hotels (which don't have smart TVs in the room) as they connect directly to the interweb whereas the Google things requires connectivity via the hotel's router.
