I sit opposite the office IT support guy and there is a constant stream of disgruntled users because of problems with their Macs.
He himself is hanging on to his Windows desktop as long as company policy allows.
No doubt the Mac is cool though !

That was September 17.Originally posted by d000hg View PostThis was the article I remember reading: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/0...s_high_sierra/
I was very pleased when I upgraded to HS a couple of weeks ago, and I still am.
I was hoping that it might fix the sleep problem, but it hasn’t completely.

Officially my Canon printer drivers don't work either - Pixma iP4500.Originally posted by FiveTimes View PostThe only issue Ive had with HS is that the Canon printer drivers no longer work.
Apart from that the mac mini and mbp have been running fine on it
Thankfully no one told the printer, so when I got the iMac, I just installed the most recent driver for the printer I could find. It works.

My MBP is my main laptop, I guess I will have to get a new one this year. I’ll take a look at FAQqer’s recommendations.Originally posted by woohoo View PostSorry, didnt see this question.
I bought it from Amazon, these are the people, not sure if it was this exact battery. My MBP is not my main laptop, so these are the guys and the laptop still works and is not on fire, so that's the extent of my recommendation

Sorry, didnt see this question.Originally posted by cojak View PostAh, that’s interesting woohoo - could tell us where you bought? (There are so many dodgy electrical sellers out there I’d rather have a recommendation.)

The only issue Ive had with HS is that the Canon printer drivers no longer work.Originally posted by WTFH View PostI held off upgrading for a while on my old MBP, but had no problems when I did. I put it onto the iMac and it's been fine. I know there were reviews back in September/October that said don't update yet but I haven't seen any recently, and if your processor is at risk from Meltdown/Spectre, then you really should upgrade.

Try 'caffeine'....
Or
pmset -a sleep 0
pmset -a disksleep 0
and
pmset -a displaysleep 0
if you want display on perm.

HS considerably improved the performance of my MBP.
I was very happy with the upgrade.

Oh, OK so Safe Sleep is just Hibernate in Windows terminology... saves the state to HDD and powers off. Though OSX does already have nice features to let you turn the machine off and keep apps open, which is a big plus.

It has done it for me since at least Yosemite which came out I think during the sale period of this iteration.Originally posted by cojak View PostNo, I’m thinking that it’s quite possible that an ‘upgrade’ update did something to destabilise older Macs of all persuasions.
Woohoo is suggesting an alternative fix (for me), so I’ll give that a try.
Not really a solution but well done for trying.Originally posted by Lance View Postturn sleep off
You're welcome.
@DaveB WTF are they playing at! Many thanks I shall investigate.
@WTFH I'm on Sierra as the review I read of HS was "don't update yet" due to major changes under the hood. I had wondered about apps keeping it alive but all I tend to run is Chrome, Parallels, OneNote and Skype. I do have Dropbox in the background. Activity Monitor shows nothing untoward but nearly every app pings the web for cloud sync now
