This was accompanied by S1E1 of Critical: Between Life and Death on Netflix, which is a bit like 24 Hours in A&E combined with the call centre bits of Ambulance judging by this episode, being a documentary about London's health services dealing with serious incidents; this episode was about a bunch of people being injured when a fairground ride decided to fall to bits as it was whizzing them around at high speed

Given how many such documentary series I've watched, part of the fun in this was spotting medical staff that have appeared in the other programmes. In particular, one of the doctors with HEMS was, IIRC, previously at either St George's or Kings and has appeared on 24 Hours in A&E quite a few times

Another day done! Despite meetings, I managed to get stuff done to the extent that I'll be demoing it in the fortnightly Show & Tell tomorrow

As I managed to keep my commit history fairly well structured and with meaningful comments, I've just checked and I'll be able to checkout a specific commit and demo how the UI for this bit of the app used to work (clunky), then checkout the latest version and show how it now works (elegant)

Demo went OK!

Last time, our team went last, so I assumed I'd have about an hour to think it through while other teams chuntered on about what they'd been doing. First thing I saw when I woke the work laptop was "We're going first!" Oh well, probably best to get it out of the way

Today I will be taking yea olde jalopy to an air conditioning specialist to get the definitive verdict on what's needed to get the air conditioning working again. It's not worked for two years and it's this time of year when it's needed most. In the summer, I just drive with the windows open and cover the leather seats. In the winter, the car mists up and clearing the windscreen is a challenge. I know the clutch that operates the compressor has failed but I don't know if that one part is replaceable or if it's a "whole unit" job. An estimate I got over the phone in March suggests that it's going to cost north of a grand to sort out.

Meanwhile on the 17th of February 2020 AndyGarbs, opm, Brillo, and Churchill popped in, the latter with concerns about flooding down by 'ere, and his little lad had been away with the cubs, the water had drained from the bottoms of the gardens which was good, WTFH saw a patch of blue sky, as did I though it didn't last long, NF was reading a neurosurgeon's book, and I was wondering WTF "Homeland" had been about for S4, 5, & 6.

It's a rainy start after a rainy night, with a rainy morning ahead; and though it's supposed to stop raining at lunchtime, it'll remain windy. The rain is, in fact, just a bit drizzly at the moment, but will become heavier again shortly. It'll be slightly warmer though: currently 13°C (though it "feels like" 7°) and soaring to 20° for a brief spell this afternoon. The barometers are about the same at 1001/1008mB

Wednesday tomorrow and the end of our sprint/start of the next sprint, meaning a day filled with meetings. Ah well, at least I'm halfway through the week

Tea, eventually, has been a beef curry with rice and (just the one) mini naan. Turned out very nice in the end, and the additional half hour or so of vigorous boiling didn't seem to have done it any harm

I tried to make dinner in the InstantPot™ and, once it was heating up, left it to its devices. I had a quick glance now and again, and the time was counting down and everything seemed fine

Returning to the kitchen a few minutes before it was due to finish, I realised that the pressure valve had never popped up! So it hadn't been pressure cooking at all, just boiling the stuff

So I took the lid off and played with the valve, which seemed fine, and put the lid back on and stood there waiting while it heated up again. Except the boiling had reduced the liquid too much, so it started sticking to the base of the pan which triggered the sensor that stops it if that happens, so it doesn't burn

And so I added more water, and stirred and scraped until all the stuck stuff was off the bottom, and now it's finally heated back up and come up to pressure, and dinner will be about an hour late

At least I now know that it doesn't actually use a pressure sensor. Apparently, it starts the countdown based on the temperature it's got to and (I think) how long it's been at it for, as that should normally correlate with it having reached the pressure that forces the valve shut

Still mainly cloudy out, but there have been sunny spells. The wind isn't as strong as it was, but it still seems quite breezy

Such deliveries as I was expecting today have arrived, so I can stop fretting over them and get some work done… oh wait, there are several meetings this afternoon
