Tea has been one of those thick-cut ribeye steaks, with chips, fried onions and beans; absolutely delicious
I think I came within a whisker of setting off the smoke alarm, but it was worth taking the chance for the beautifully seared crust I managed to impart to the steak
Quite a pleasant evening for it - sunny, but no more than 10°C so no chance of overheating, and the occasional bit of breeze was more refreshingly chilled than anything
Saw the new plans. Not much changed - a few improvements from my perspective, but the new building is still too close and too high as far as I'm concerned, although within legal limits. Had an ocular migraine (visual distortion but no real headache) while there. Not the best time when I'm trying to read architect plans. Wore off just as we left the offices.
We're really not going to contest further.
Roast chicken, cucumber and baguettes duly sourced.
Having had my office in situ for over four years and working in it full time for the past year, I finally got around to getting one of those carpet protector things.
It's just arrived, amusingly rolled and tied despite the sticker on it saying "do not bend or roll, ship flat!". Cutting the tie was actually quite dangerous.
It's now in place and I'm now mildly vexed by my chair rolling around on it and not staying in place
And now it is Leicester, to wit, the Cradock Arms - a pub where I was a bit of a regular from time to time in the 1980s during various periods living on that side of town, though I haven't been there in years
Lunch has been ham toasties (made with white sesame bloomer)
Live reporter from outside an M&S on some High Street on BBC News. I was thinking it all seems strangely familiar, yet it clearly isn't Leicester. Turns out it's Cheltenham
Was sunnyish, now grey and getting darker by the minute.
Cold at 16.2 deg in here.
1028 mBar, 30.36 in Hg, 53% RH. (oh the lack of the caps lock on this chrome box is fecking irritating).
Monday.
Telex machine gleaming even more coz of caps lock.
Walk walked.
The ongoing works on the res dam are ongoing with lots of cars & vans up there today.
The construction in the old car park is also ongoingly ongoing, having sprouted scaffolding over the weekend, with someone adding another layer of breeze this morning.
Still wondering WTF it's for.
Forgot to mention the Coal Authority van that was up there too.
I wonder what's transpiring.
Lunch: scrambled egg and poached tomato on Morrisons wholemeal sunflower and spelt bread, 2 x bramble jelly sandwiches on same, yellow corner yog, 0.91 pints of good Glengettie tea.
Entertainment: Engineering disasters: Pepcon explosions in Ammonium perchlorate, 3.0 and 3.5 on the Richter scale.
4,700 tons of the stuff.
Firefighting equipment: a garden hose.
Plant built over a natural gas pipeline.
The stuff was stored in the carpark, in barrels, all 4,700 tons of it.
Bridge deck failure, this can ruin your day. Rust in the pin & hanger construction.
Anyone know why it thinks all this is part of the url for the R101?
The afternoon has been spent searching for the illusory dvd of "Escape from New York" which I though I had but obviously haven't.
More duplicates of other stuff have been found, so the time wasn't totally wasted.
Plus I found a dvd of "Manhunter" wherein the good Doctor Lecter is played by our very own Brian Cox as opposed to our very own Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Tea: the last of yesterday's roast chicken with bacon & sausage, the last of the sliced mango (tinned), a random scotch egg (to celebrate the shops being open or something, actually merely because I found the packet in the fridge), a yog, 0.91 pints of good Glengettie tea.
Entertainment:
Shedloads of Police Interceptors, Traffic Cops, etc.
NCIS S16 E12 "The Last Link" wherein Dabney Coleman plays a friend of Gibb's dad, with a side plot of drug dealing via snack machines.
Pretty meh, all in all.
The extra features on the "Alien Nation" dvd that I found last week or the week before.
About 10 minutes worth but it seemed longer.
James Caan has nothing good to say about that film.
It's reasonably bright out but cloudy. There was signs of dampness on the patio and the drivellers on R4 were talking about snow. Currently 3 degrees ('feels like' 1) with a high of 9 and more sunshine later. Barometer up to 1026 mBar.
One meeting done and four more to go. Having ended a project at the end of March and then taken time off before returning to join a new project, it feels like I've started a new contract!
Today's Kantar diary fact is:
Zimbabwe officially abandons the Zimbabwean Dollar (ZWD) as its official currency 2009
