After me volunteery morning spent time in garden, mostly getting rid of the damn bindweed that has taken over my greenhouse again. Thought I had solved the problem last year by sealing gaps in floor slabs all round edges and putting down some artificial turf but made no difference, long roots coming from underneath it, have to seal the whole floor. Need it for autumn, it's my little warm resty place.

Beef casserole, flavoured with Hobgoblin ale, is simmering in the oven and starting to smell very nice

I was going to do it in the slow cooker, but it would have needed about seven or eight hours and I forgot to put it on this morning. I could have done it in the InstantPot™ instead, but I’m not convinced the flavours develop as well in there (though it could then have been left overnight to let them do so). So I compromised by putting it in the casserole dish in a low oven, where it’ll get four hours or so

And tonight I started reading V for Victory by Lissa Evans, set in 1944, about a Hampstead boarding house landlady who's guardian to an orphaned teenage boy - except it seems she has, with his collusion, stolen the identity of the relative of his she’s supposed to be (who was killed in an air raid), for reasons that are not yet clear

This evening, I finally decided to splash out on the new iPhone 18 Pro Max. It won’t get here until mid-October though
