Meanwhile on the 16th of February 2020 it was very wet: WTFH had 8 litres of water out of his roof, BR14 popped in, along with Brillo, Churchill and LM, whilst NF watched the Prada film again, and the bottom of next door's garden had 6" of water, whilst there was an inch or so in my pig sties: high tide was at 11:38 and the marsh was fullish at 11:15 with the river making a roaring noise as it flowed towards the sea, with the canal overtopping the bank in places.

Odd dream before waking: seemed to involve some sort of heist and a repeat of same. Most odd.

Walk (towpath, abbreviated) walked. It sprinkled rain on me for a while.

Fair departed hence.

Lunch: brunch: entertainment: Mandy followed by Just a Minute.

Freecell score in the ongoing deluge: 70%, running average: 84%. Not in the zone at all this afternoon: approaching wall punching mode when I paused for a cup of mediocre coffee just in time.

Cloudy start out, more featureless and flat than the clouds yesterday, which at least had some form to them. It's 13°C and expected to soar to 16° this afternoon, but accompanied by some rain. The barometers are back up a bit at 999/1007mB

I awoke around ten to eight, but decided that was far too early for a Sunday and went back to sleep

Tea was brought to me from the Turkish place. Very nice as usual

I had a voucher for £8 off that needed to be used up, and there was also a promotion offering £7 off, so I ended up saving £15 on the whole deal

Afternoon all
i'm glad I'm retired<sort of>. none of my stuff needs an I-ron or any fancy treatment whatsoever.
All cotton, no fancy dress/suits/ties/other nonsense.
jeans/shorts and Tshirts/track tops/fleeces. bliss.

Pleased with my continuing ability to make mainframes perform, though , Although I reckon I'll either go part time from now, or chuck it if the consultancy don't agree.
I've proved I can still cut it, and I don't really need the money*.

Then over to Argos-in-Sainsbury's to treat myself to a clothes steamer. I got rid of my ironing board and iron as I didn't use them but I do have a couple of linen dresses that would look a lot better for a bit of de-creasing every now and then. A steamer takes up much less room.

I've got one of those. They're very good, and all you need most of the time

^^ nearly! HWMBO had reason to replace his WM recently and I suggested he looked at a combined washer-dryer. His has reservoirs for the liquid detergent and fabric conditioner that you fill up and the machine determines how much to use based on the load. He did some tests and determined it was dosing appropriately so now he lets the machine deal with it. Next stop will be to automatically order when running low, I'm sure.

Though it doesn't do the shopping, they sent me a load of the two kinds of stuff for free which is intended to last a family for six months, so it should see me through at least a year

I can still chuck a pod in if I choose, or even go old school and pour powder into the drawer. But the stuff it handles automagically works and smells OK, so why bother?

Popped over to the farmers' market to see if the Carribbean sauce lady was there this week (she wasn't).

Tonight's major motion picture premiere was The Foreigner (2017) in which an elderly Jackie Chan is hell bent on revenge after his daughter is killed by a bomb planted by a renegade nouveau IRA unit. But does he have a special set of skills…? I thought this was excellent, bringing revenge and action tropes together in a very dark political thriller. Highly recommended

And then Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016) which is a fitting ending to the saga

Finally, I decided to rewatch The Adjustment Bureau (2011) for no other reason than that I like it. I really ought to get around to reading the Philip K. Dick short story on which it, as with so many good films, is based
