In Here, There and Everywhere they’ve been doing some very odd things in the studio, and are halfway through recording Sergeant Pepper

Thursday tomorrow, and not just any Thursday: once I finish, I’m off until a week next Monday!

    Goodnight all

The storm passed, and it brightened up again - the sky’s mostly clear now

Tea was homemade sweet & sour pork with fried rice. Turned out well; I won’t be opening a takeaway any time soon on the strength of it, but I enjoyed it

To go with this, the final 20 minutes or so of the 24 Hours in Police Custody I started watching yesterday. Have to wait until next week for the second episode

^Weather forecasts for the same area seem to differ by source, nearly always pessimistic too, usually nicer than it's supposed to be.

Lunch has been the last of the turkey soup from Christmas (actually frozen 2/1/2026) with a crust of wholemeal

Various meetings this morning, which was a bit annoying as I wanted to carry on digging into the problem we’ve been having

I think I made some useful discoveries in the last half-hour or so before lunch though

    Morning all

Dull and overcast. Currently 14 degrees ('feels like' 12) with a high of 17 expected. It might rain, or the sun might make an appearance. Barometer down to 1015 mBar.

    Sunrise 06:06; Sunset 19:58 BST

Yesterday evening HWMBO and I walked down to the pub on the corner for dinner for a change. They do good Thai food there.

Today, I was supposed to be in the office for Gig3 but I also have a lot of meetings to attend for Gig1. I thusly came to the conclusion at 0630 that I had that particular flavour of back problem which prevents one from getting out of bed.

    Morning.

    Wednesday.

    Grey.

    Sunless.

    Dreary.

Chilly in here at 14.2 deg, 15 in the kitchen, 14 in the leanto.

1007 mBar, 29.74 in Hg, 755.3 Torr, 14.6 psi, (down from 1009 last night), 67% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 24th of March 2020 BR14, covbob, LM, NF and I popped in, with NF cooking apple pies. Well there's a thing.

Prepared more green bags of moss for disposal tomorrow, just as it started to rain.

Freecell score in the grey gloom of the morning: 89%, running average: 84%.

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: noon o'clock news. Y&Y waffling on about potholes.

Much spraying of black mould killer as the cleaning of the springs begins again for another year. It does look a bit cleaner in the leanto now.

Freecell score in the wanly sunny afternoon: 100% (of 17), running average: 84%.

Walk (abbreviated, towpath) walked in the wan sunshine & cold wind. Eventually became warm enough to remove scarf & unzip jackets.

Tea: Tesco battered haddock: much nicer that that Tesco "white fish", being twice the price. Entertainment: Media programme. PM. Septic comes on <click>.

"Those British Faces": Will Hay. . Goodness me. . <click>

"Out of Town" with Jack Hargreaves.

    Scotland Yard. "The crossroads gallows".

Blaze: the unbelievable with Dan Aykroyd "Astonishing bodies".

Thing on Alba about climbing a sea stack near Ullapool. Feck me. .

Thing on Alba about Leonardo da Vinci 1/n. Ken Burns.

Sudden fit of sneezing earlier. I hope I haven't contracted anything on that bus ride yesterday. I did find it very chilly indeed.

    Morning denizens

It's a grey sort of morning and there seems to have been a shower or two overnight, and today will continue much the same, getting windier towards lunchtime and with a chance of rain towards teatime. Mild enough: currently 12°C (“feels like” 7°) with an expected high of 16°. The barometers are down again at 1001/1009mB

Oops! Wrote up a goodnight post last night and forgot to post it! I was tired…

    Here it is for posterity:

This evening’s viewing was the first part of a new 24 Hours in Police Custody, about the cold case of an elderly woman murdered in Wisbech. The police who originally responded dismissed it as a natural death and handed the scene back to the family, meaning it was completely contaminated; it turned out she’d been stabbed multiple times and an attempt made to set her on fire. Interestingly, they showed the cold case squad interviewing the sergeant who’d been in charge of the scene trying to explain and justify his catastrophic ballsup to them while they said things like “In all my years of policing, I’ve never seen such an inexplicable decision”

Later in Here, There and Everywhere they’ve recorded Revolver and the Beatles are back in the studio after their final tour, planning to do things differently from now on

    Goodnight all

Tea has been lamb tagine with rice

This was out of the freezer (except the rice, done in the rice cooker) but there’s been other cooking going on. I’d taken lamb mince out of the freezer yesterday so I could make a shepherd’s pie base today, then leave it in the fridge for the flavours to mingle and develop. And later I’d taken out some belly pork rashers, intending to have a stir-fry or something with those today. But I’d forgotten about them, so I hadn’t put them in a low oven mid-afternoon as I usually do

So I decided to have the tagine and rice, and also pop the pork in the oven to slow-cook; it’s just browning and crisping up now, after which it can go in the fridge. And the shepherd’s pie base is also done and cooling down. So for a couple more days there'll only be minor extra work to be done to get dinner sorted out, which works out quite nicely

Lunch has been some leftover Thai chicken bits

There was a meeting before that. We have this one every week and often manage to end it fairly quickly, but this one ran the full hour, up to 13:00
