Trip to the tip later, our gardener filled 4 dumpy bags with prunings yesterday. Will make my first trip this morning and see what the queue is like. Second trip might be straight after, or saved for tomorrow.

3 trips done yesterday - 2 in the morning and one just before they closed. Might have to do a run today as well. It’s amazing how much extra garden waste you generate when you put a new chain on a saw.

I wasn’t previously aware that at this time (it’s 1901), A. E. Waite was manager of a Horlicks factory. But I don’t suppose he would have been able to make a living solely from his (frankly rather turgid) books about esoteric matters

The printer has been set up on the PC. Of course the "HP App" that HP say has to be installed via the Microsoft Store is a load of crap and I had to hunt down the old fashioned software so enable the scanner functionality.

It's all a bit slow but useable.

Haven't been able to access these hallowed fora since sometime.yesterday, getting a 403 error. I ended up having to try with Chrome instead of Firefox. I very much dislike Chrome.

Dell tech support wanted me to dismantle my PC to take pictures of both ends of the duff cable, send them the pics, give the type and serial no of the drive i wanted to fit, and some other nonsense, all before they'd send me a new cable. - or, they'd book me a pickup, where i'd have to box up the PC and let them have it for an indeterminate time.

they cost £3.99 for 3 on amazon.
I told DELL to stuff their so called 'support'.
My next machine purchase will NOT be a DELL offering.

Walk (abbreviated, 3 miles) walked in the sunshine. The hill up from the lock reminded me I hadn't done it for a couple of days.

Tea: soup (of the tomato variety today for some reason: doesn't happen often) along with that very solid Morrisons wholemeal thick sliced that requires help to go down my gullet. Nice enough. At least it helps keep you regular, as it were. .

Filthy Fortunes on DMAX: clearing the property (all 10 acres thereof) of the lifetime accumulation of tools & junk owned by a deceased machinist. Stone me there was a lot of it, much ended up as scrap metal, but lots of it was sold to collectors/machinists/mechanics who wanted such things. The family ended up with $16.8k in cash and a property that was clear of junk. I wonder how he got the artic trailer in there.

Tonight’s major motion picture premiere was Mayday (2026) in which Ryan Reynolds is shot down in a Blackbird over the USSR in the 1980s, and Kenneth Branagh plays a Russian who helps him out. This was released today on Apple TV+ and… yeah, it’s OK, but nothing special. Excellent performance from Branagh though - he’s the one that elevates it from mediocrity

And as I was already watching Apple TV+, I got around to rewatching The Gorge (2025) which is very good in many ways, though I realised this time that certain aspects of the story borrow fairly heavily from Annihilation without improving thereon

And then I thought I’d watch an episode of a TV series, but what? I took a chance on the first episode of Dark Matter, another Apple TV+ thing which seems to involve parallel universes or some such. I’m not sure I’ll carry on, because I’m quite fussy about TV series these days. I know not everything can be The Wire or Breaking Bad or The Sopranos; but I don’t mind waiting until something like that turns up. If they don’t have that, I’m OK with doing something else. It’s not as if the TV has to be on. A lot of things people speak highly of seem to be regarded as “good” in the sense of “You’ll be watching telly anyway, so you may as well watch this.”

I would like a new series of Pluribus though; that raised some intriguing philosophical questions, and I like stuff that makes you think as well as entertaining you
