In this morning’s Show & Tell, I had little to either show or tell. But I managed to fill some time with the documentation I produced about getting PyCharm working in the new development environments and such, and (though I hadn’t realised it) the head of software development happened to have joined and spoke highly of it; so that reflected some glory on everybody

After that, we squeezed the retrospective and sprint planning into an hour, largely because there’s very little to plan: our goal is for this to be the final full-time sprint on this thing before it goes into maintenance mode and I move on to other work, occasionally being dragged back kicking and screaming if a bug surfaces or something needs tweaking

Patchy cloud out, looking as if it might turn out quite sunny, or go the other way and become much gloomier. The weather app thinks the latter. A bit colder too: 13°C which “feels like” 9°, though it will climb to 18° for a brief spell this afternoon. The barometers are back up a bit at 1007/1015mB

Meanwhile on the 4th of April 2020, between 16:07 and 16:12, AndyGarbs, Brillo, and LM popped in, with Brillo doing much of the popping.

Entertainment: Jack Hargreaves Old Country: DIY: bootlaces, whips, etc. and introducing Fred who is the Ford Escort Bull, being the AI man. The Jack Hargreaves EuroPot hanging pot design. I wonder if it caught on.

38 bus to that Swansea: the rain started in Jersey Marine & by the time we reached Swansea it wasn't taking prisoners any more: wore the Wrong Jacket for that sort of thing.

The month's pile of books donated to Oxfam: I'm sure they'll be really grateful. . Particularly for the 3 ex-libris ones. .

T12 back to Neath, where it was dry until I was 300 yards from home, whereupon it started to rain again. Just as well I didn't strip the bed then, innit?

Tea has been a gammon steak with chips, fried egg, and beans

Accompanied by the rest of the Police Interceptors I started watching last week, in which they executed a perfect TPAC on a car on the M1, only to find it was being driven by the owner, who’d tracked it to London when it was nicked, and gone and got it back

He’d told the Met all about it, but they were probably too busy hitting old ladies and clergymen with long batons to bother updating the PNC

The boiler has been fixed. It was the fuse on the switch adjacent to the boiler. I probably had a fuse in my tool box and could have saved the landlady a large fee.

Off soon to Ealing Town Hall to hear about the London Plan and what it means for Ealing. Some kind of workshop. Gets me out and potentially offers an opportunity to tout my wares.

Lunch: a Pukka sausage roll

This morning has mostly involved discovering that an old and almost never-used bit of functionality is broken, then going off on a side quest trying to get some of the nifty error tracing stuff working in the application monitoring system that replaced Sentry a few months ago. In the end, I had to get it working from the old laptop with a soon-to-be-cancelled Gmail address, after which it also worked on the new laptop. But I suspect this means they need to do a bit more work disconnecting stuff from the old email addresses before they get rid of Gmail completely

Then it was time for the stakeholders to review the home page changes, or more accurately the changes to the changes proposed by one of the Content experts who reviewed them this morning. Some of the new changes are good, some we tweaked further, and some were dismissed on the basis that the system is only used by subject matter experts so the suggestions either failed to convey something significant, or were just deemed unnecessary. So updating all that gives me something to do this afternoon that will involve very little effort

Oh, and I also booked the last week of October off!

In tax news, my accountant had said I owed a small amount for last year based on my tax return, so I went to pay that online. But it turned out I owe nothing as they still haven’t used up all the money from the last time I made a payment on account, so they’ll just take it out of that

The boiler has packed up. It's like it has no power but no fuses have tripped. A man that can is coming sometime this afternoon to take a look.
