Busy day, arty farty thing this morning, folllowed by visit to small local art exhibition with ll2, then a wake party this afternoon. Didn't know bloke very well but seemed a nice guy and I admired his hippy look. I used to dress liike that once, got so boring now.

Tea has been homemade pork chow mein. Turned out quite nicely; nothing they’d recognise down the Chinese, but I’m managing to refine whatever recipe I started with into something acceptable to me

For viewing, I started watching the LA homicide thing on Netflix about Phil Spector

Greetings from Helsinki, local time 1736.

The ferry journey was uneventful. Hotel nice. Had a short wander around the immediate area and have secured postcards and stamps already. Warm and sunny.

    Posh dinner this evening.

It’s quite Simpsonesque out now, but still very breezy. We have a warning for thunderstorms tomorrow and Thursday

Entertainment: some weird septic thing about Alaskan homesteaders, this homestead being in the Carolinas. So badly built that the recommendation was demolition due to the incredible mould (or mold) infesting the place. The replacement was built on a 20 x 8 foot trailer, using corrugated metal sheets to make it rather more waterproof than the previous attempt had been.

Jack Hargreaves Old Country: the titles now show over his horse blue pulling that cart thing he had built. This one was about old tools, some of the old tools in question being adzes of various kinds, including a cooper's adze, which led to an old cooper showing how the tools were used to repair a barrel. I realised after posting this that “somebody” is Ben Zotto, author of a book on the 1970s history of Sphere Computer which I bought recently. I also mentioned his site about them in Monday Links

    Morning denizens

I struggled to get to sleep for ages last night, with the result that this morning, I managed to turn off both first and second alarms without really waking up, then slept until a bit after eight. Oh well, I feel better for it, even if it does make the morning routine a bit rushed

There’s more cloud out than yesterday, but it’ll be warmer: already 17°C and aiming for 24°, though there’s also a decent breeze to keep the fresh air moving. The barometers are down to 1003/1011mB, continuing that odd trend this summer of the pressure dropping as the weather gets warmer

    Morning all, local time 0832

Blue sky with lumps of fluff again. Currently 14 degrees with a high of 18 expected. No rain forecast. Barometer up to 1017 mBar.

    Sunrise 06:01; Sunset 20:44 EEST

We took advantage of the nicer weather yesterday for more exploration of the old town and I secured the purchase of postcards and stamps. Forgot to take a pen out with me so the writing and posting were delayed to later in the day.

Today we take the ferry to Helsinki.

This evening’s viewing was the remainder of an episode of the motorway cops (who seldom go on the motorway) plus dashcam thing that I started watching the other night. At least they now try to make the dashcam clips vaguely relevant to whatever they’ve interrupted to slot them in

And tonight I read more of To Each This World where the story’s getting going, which makes the author’s occasionally idiosyncratic writing style slightly less distracting
