Busy weekend ahead: I’ve got the dentist AND dental hygienist tomorrow, and on Sunday I’m heading south for a barbecue with the family. I wish I hadn’t had to spend about half of my time off waiting for the malign effects of that drug to wear off

Went with loony lady 1 on bus to Eastbourne today. Was rather hotter than we hoped but trip was interesting, better view from top deck than when you are driving.

Ah! There's a dead bird, Woodpecker I think, on my front drive. Maybe crashed into my window, but never had that happen at the front of the house before.

Just had a followup phone call with the pharmacist, who agreed that the new cholesterol drug seems to have been the problem. So I’m staying off that, and he’s going to get back in touch about other options in a month or so, as he figured it was sensible to leave some time to be sure I’ve fully recovered from whatever it was doing to me

We had a few brief spells of rain yesterday, including a shower while I was driving to the shops. None of it was enough to make a difference to anything, though

Yesterday evening I met friends for cocktails in the Corinthia Hotel, Whitehall. Very good they were too. I do like a good hotel bar. Got home after midnight (as we had to go to Thunderbird Chicken afterwards), went to bed after 1am. Woke at 5.15am feeling a bit fuzzy headed, slept in until 10am. It's a good job I don't have a job

Then just as I was sorting out a spot of presenteeism for billing purposes, the door bell went. I thought it was Amazon delivering. Sadly, it was some people from the local 'Kingdom Hall' trying to recruit more suckers. Got rid of them quickly and saved the lad upstairs from talking to them by telling them he wasn't in.

As feckin if. Did Albert Einstein take a look at the Roswell crash? Etc. Etc. Etc.

Tonight’s major motion picture premiere was Shelter (2026) in which Jason Statham plays a secretive man who turns out to have a hidden past as a deadly special forces operative. Nice to see him trying something new… But anyway, it may sound formulaic, but it’s a very good example of the formula and I enjoyed it a lot

Then a rewatch of Warfare (2025) which is also very good, if only for trying to be realistic about the appalling and brutal consequences of sending people to be shot and blown up. They should make politicians watch this before they go to sleep every night, though the ones who really need it right now would either fall asleep during it, or just not care

And then a further episode of Silo in which the truth is starting to become apparent to at least some people

To accompany this, Murder 24/7 on iPlayer, which is a continuation of the case from last series about the DPD driver who was murdered by a gang with machetes and such, apparently because of mistaken identity

Lunch was nothing, because I figured I could get something when I went shopping, if I went shopping. In the end, I did go shopping and have just got back, but a) I forgot to get anything specifically for today's lunch and b) it’s too late for lunch anyway, so I’ll just have a bag of crisps

I went via the old place, where I’m happy to report that the chestnut trees seem fine, as does the Polish café

Then on to M&S, but this time for clothes, not food; to wit, some new t-shirts and socks. I also got suckered into a pair of jeans that was on sale, and some more shirts that caught my fancy but which I’ll probably decide I don’t like after all once it’s too late to return them, after which I finally managed to escape

Over to Sainsbury’s, where the new Viz was secured. The new layout continues to confuse and generally disrupt my long-established habits; it’s like when they move the eggs, but for everything all at once

Also, they seem to have stopped making a few things around which I’d based some favourite recipes, so I need to work out how to deal with that

But I’m fairly sure I didn’t forget anything I actually needed this time, so I should be able to survive the next week despite going back to work

Coming back the other way, I was waiting at the lights at the junction where I turn off the outer ring road when I realised that the second car in front had a camera thing mounted on its roof, and thought I’d finally get to see a Google Street View car in the wild. The car between us was a taxi so when the lights changed and we turned, that took the bus lane which meant I was right behind the camera car, and lo! it was an Apple Maps Image Collection car instead

I ended up behind it for a mile or so until it turned off up Grace Road, so the Corolla will hopefully be appearing on your favourite Apple products soon

It’s cloudy, but more masses of cumuli rather than overcast, so some sunshine breaks through from time to time. It’ll b milder today: already at 20°C, it won’t get past 23° (and that only briefly), which is rather more tolerable. The barometers are trivially up at 1003/1011mB

I may go shopping, as it’s Viz-hits-the-shops day. But I may not. I’ve got a check-up at the dentist on Saturday afternoon, which means I’ll be on that side of the city and could go then. But I’m not keen on going there on a Saturday afternoon because it’s too busy. I suppose I could go tomorrow. I think I’ll just dither over what to do for a while longer
